ROLE, TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The WASH PM represents INTERSOS with NGOs and partners within the WASH Sector, in agreement and on the basis of the Head of Mission indications and the NGO strategy. S/he is responsible for all the WASH Sector activities and the direct management of the Sector staff. Specifically he/she is responsible to:
• Assist the organization on all technical issues concerning water, hygiene and sanitation activities. • Manage and oversee the work of the WASH staff (mainly water engineers and hygiene promoters); guarantee an on the job capacity building of local staff. • Supervise and monitor the implementation of the WASH activities, ensuring that all the activities are compliant with the projects requirement as instructed by the Project Managers and in coordination among the different projects and sectors. • Ensuring appropriate expenditure for the WASH activities in respect with donor requirements and INTERSOS procedures. • Recognize further needs and undertake assessments as necessary, contribute to identify and write project proposals for new or follow-on WASH projects in close co-operation with the Head of Mission. • Provide timely and adequate technical documentation for project proposals and reporting. • Liaise and coordinate all technical activities with the local competent authorities. • Participate to WASH Sector coordination meetings according to the NGO strategy in the Sector.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's degree in WASH related field such as Civil, Water or Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, Geology. • At least 2 years experience in WASH Sector, preferably with experience in building sites. • At least 1 year experience for NGOs or no profit organizations, preferably in the region. • Basic knowledge of water, sanitation and hygiene standards (i.e. SPHERE). Knowledge of community based approach for hygiene in recovery&development (i.e. PHAST, CATS) will be considered a plus. • Basic knowledge of the procurement guidelines of international main Donors. • Technical experience in construction of water, irrigation and civil work related to rain water harvesting in arid situations (earth dam, check dam, sand dam etc) will be considered a plus. • A good knowledge of spoken and written English is necessary; • Comfortable with computer use • Problem solving, strategic planning capabilities and strong supervisory skills • Proven capabilities of personnel and financial resources management in multicultural environments • Proven ability to work creatively and independently both in the field and in the office, in difficult conditions and under pressure
