HEAD TEACHER: UMUBANO PRIMARY SCHOOL
Umubano Primary School is a newly constructed private school including Nursery to Primary 6. In partnership with an international NGO and the Rwandan government, we seek to create a center of excellence for students and teachers alike. Over the next several years, we aim to develop primary education model that not only provides equal access to quality education for all children, but will serve as a model for the Ministry of Education to reference in their efforts to revolutionize the way primary education is approached in the country.

THE ROLE: Head Teacher: Umubano Primary School
Contract type: Full time, 2 year initial contract with a 6 month probationary period
Salary: 300,000- 450,000 Rwf (net) + benefits (depending on experience)
Reports to: Board of Directors
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
• Lead a team of teachers (of varying experience and abilities) in all aspects of educational excellence, and provide for their continuing development through regular assessments, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities;
• Work with the APIE educational experts to develop the school’s structure and systems ensuring they are of the highest standards;
• Seek constant improvement in both delivery and cost effectiveness of educational provision at Umubano Primary School
• Implement new systems and procedures to ensure a high quality learning environment;
• Ensure all existing and new systems are functioning and sustainable;
• Motivate the teaching staff to develop a good work ethos in conjunction with monitoring the quality of learning to ensure the highest teaching standards are being maintained;
• Support the APIE educational experts to provide for continuous professional development of teachers in order to improve teaching standards; identify weaknesses and develop ways to overcome them (this will include training etc.)
• Seek new strategies for effective classroom management and ways to promote effective learning/teaching methods;
• In partnership with APIE educational experts, develop the curriculum and instigate development activities/goals;
• Advise and assist in the development of both a short and long-term school development plan;
• Ensure the implementation and management of the school’s computerized accounting system and maintain oversight of the school’s finances;
• Supervise the creation of a comprehensive computerized student profile database;
• Identify ways in which to involve family/community in school life.
Qualifications and required skills
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Education (or related field), preferably with strong experience in primary school and early childhood.
• Fluent English and Kinyarwanda language skills (both written and verbal)
• 2+ years in a leadership position (desired)
• Excellent organizational skills
• Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate
• Innovative thinker and collaborative attitude
• Commitment to the school’s vision and mission
