Senior Long Term Planning Geologist

SENIOR LONG TERM PLANNING GEOLOGIST
African Barrick Gold’s Bulyanhulu Gold Mine in Tanzania seeks to employ an experienced Senior Long Term Planning Geologist. This role will report to the Mineral Resources Manager, and the incumbent will be responsible to design, present and deliver the next year’s underground capital diamond drill programme at Bulyanhulu to replace and expand the resource/reserve ounce. The work roster is six weeks on and three weeks off. 

KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Target and design capital diamond drilling programs that are economically viable and geologically sound • Develop presentations for the capital drilling 
• Write an AFE for approved Capital diamond drill program 
• Schedule drilling and present findings from drilling (location, grade, widths, confidence) 
• Track capital expenditures for diamond drilling 
2. Target and design definition drilling • Schedule definition drilling for the nest 2 years with a detailed schedule for the current year 
• Track budget, plan and actual for both meters drilled and intercepts expected 
• Communicate with both engineering and mine production teams to ensure schedule follows 3 year mine plan 
3. Ensure effective core management for capital and definition drilling • Ensure all holes are logged & samples are according to Bulyanhulu standards 
• Ensure geology structures are captured in the logging, major structures are interpreted and 3D objects are created Datamine 
• Conduct QAQC for all samples according to Bulyanhulu standards and improve standards to best practice as required 
4. Ensure compliance with work standards and procedures for the section’s processes • Review and update standard operating guidelines and/or procedures for geology logging and core handling yearly 
• Ensure that the section’s employees are trained on work standards and procedures relevant to their processes 
• Ensure that processes and work procedures are documented and embedded 
• Ensure Zero deviations from work standards and procedures based on regular audits/reviews 
• Conduct regular audits on the compliance to work standards by employees 
5. Ensure CI of all operational processes within Section • All Section’s employees held accountable for providing ideas and suggestions for continuous improvement initiatives 
• Continuous Improvement projects delivered by Section 
• Post-completion audit and benefits calculation and reporting on Continuous Improvement Initiatives within Section 
6. Ensure that the employees of the Section comply with ABG standards and Tanzanian legislation on Occupational Health, Safety and Environment • Zero Fatality, zero LTI and Zero MTI in Section 
• Reduction in Total Reportable Injuries Frequency rate in the Section 
• All incidents in the Section investigated in accordance with ABG Safety Standards 
• Full compliance with ABG and Tanzanian standards and norms in the field of safety, health and environment 
• Identify risks related to occupational health, safety and environment in the Section and the development of risk mitigation plans for the Section 
• All the employees in the Section are trained in ABG OHS and Environmental standards applicable to operations 
• Key Staff in the Section are trained in incident investigation 
7. Ensure effective people management in the Section in accordance to ABG People management processes • Compliance with all ABG people management standards and procedures (talent management, performance management, coaching, mentoring, etc.) and their application in regard to the employees of the Section 
• Capacity-build national workforce to replace the positions that are currently occupied by expatriates in the Section 
8. Improve Organisational Effectiveness of the Section • Ensure that work complexity of roles in the Section are matched with right capability people 

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
Education Requirements:
• BSc Geology degree 

Experience Requirements:
• 10 -15 year’s post graduate experience 
• More than 5 years experience in UG mining 
• More than 5 years planning and logging diamond drill programs, preferably underground 
• Experience in 3D modeling 
• Strong leadership skills .
