| Purpose of Role |
| The Safety Manager is required to oversee the provision and maintenance of adequate fire detection and fighting facilities, develop safe working methods through training and enforcing an elaborate Permit to Work system for hazardous tasks, coordinate safety audits and enforces corrective actions arising thereof. The Safety Manager is responsible for enforcing the adherence to statutory inspections of boilers, pressure vessels, forklifts, gamma radioactive sources, lifts, hoists etc., collection and analysis of factory accident data, investigate route causes and develop action plans to ward-off repeat occurrence. | |
| Top 3-5 Accountabilities |
|
- Ensure that the Health and Safety agenda of the business is sustained through OSHAS credibility, regulatory compliance to ensure positive corporate reputation, adherence to Statutory inspection of plant and equipment and conformance to EABL and global OSHAS standards Support the sales and marketing function via Event Risk Assessments and ensuring corporate building safety and emergency procedures.
- Adherence to Statutory inspection of plant and equipment by ensuring that all activities leading to EMS and OSHAS accreditation are fully supported, audit site plant regularly in line with safety audit procedures and ensure compliance and evident improvement in areas that support Diageo OSHAS compliance.
- Ensure adequate controls in place for storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous substances Regulatory compliance by ensuring compliance to the relevant regulatory acts and legislation
- Supporting site Risk Management by ensuring effective Security/Access control, securing partnership/Third party safety and Risks interfaces, emergency response room fully equipped with all necessary protective wear and communication facilities and information for timely response to emergencies and the provision and maintenance of fire detection and fighting facilities at the site to comply with National Statutory requirements and Diageo standards.
- Managing safety awareness programmes by facilitating staff at on the site to evolve functional and efficient safety systems for site-wide diverse requirements, creating an Emergency response team trained to handle first line emergencies and ensuring adequate first aid coverage.

| Qualifications and Experience Required |
|
- A honours Bachelors degree in Science or Engineering disciplines.
- Possession of Assessor/Lead Assessor certificate for OHSAS. Comprehensive knowledge of ISO 9001, HACCP, ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 standards plus any other management systems that may apply.
- At least 5 (five) years management experience in a food, drink, brewing or packaging Industry with at least 3 (three) years experience in first level management.
- Experience in OHS and Environment management disciplines, incident investigation and route cause analysis, dealing with external authorities and managing/co-coordinating within a multi-site and multi-cultural environment.
