The Cotton and Textile Development Programme (CTDP) is an initiative of Tanzania Gatsby Trust (TGT) and is funded by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation (GCF) and the UK's Department for International Development (DFID). The CTDP works under the auspices of the Tanzania Cotton Board (TCB) and with a wide range of public and private sector partners to improve the incomes and livelihoods from cotton of 360,000 small scale cotton farmers in the Lake Zone regions of Tanzania _ aiming to sustainably transform the country's cotton industry. The transformation includes major policy work on cotton pricing, licensing and regulation; the development of private markets for key agricultural-inputs; and the facilitation of sector-wide use of improved cotton seed. In parallel to this market transformation, the Programme is encouraging cotton farmers to adopt minimum tillage conservation agriculture.
The programme is managed from a head office in Dar es Salaam with a field team based in Mwanza. Financial management and administrative support are provided by Tanzania Gatsby Trust, a local institution set up with the support of the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, but n functioning independently. The CTDP employs 26 full-time staff but also engages with a very large number of field officers and lead farmers.
Ginning Industry Manager
Reporting to: GCF Programme Director
Location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with regular travel to Mwanza and the Lake Zone
Key Responsibilities
• To lead the CTDP's relationships with the Tanzanian ginning community:
? Developing an understanding of their business models and commercial and investment constraints
? Building individual relationships, to assist the development of trust and cooperation between private and public sector stakeholders
? supporting the development of pro-investment policy based on genuine private sector needs and requirements
• To coordinate the relationship with the GIZ-Ied and CTDP co-funded COMPACI programme, including:
? Programme design and ongoing monitoring & review
? Strategic advice to CTDP on potential scale-up
? COMPACI reporting to CTDP.

Technical Competence
The ideal candidate will need to have:
• A commitment to and understanding of market development solutions for rural poverty
• The ability to build trusted business relationships in a multicultural
Environment Extremely strong analytical skills, including the ability to analyse financial statements
• An understanding of government policy-making systems and structures, ideally in a developing country context
• An understanding of the cotton and textiles industry
• A passion for improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers, and be extremely results-oriented towards that goal Commitment to a high standard of professional performance and integrity
• Initiative and the ability to work independently, taking a high degree of personal responsibility for results
• A private sector outlook on development, and be enthusiastic about promoting private sector investment to drive change
Strong intellectual curiosity,
Qualifications, Experience and Expectations
• Five years' private sector experience
• Some experience of working in international development ideally in Africa
• Extensive experience of developing analytical solutions to strategic problems, in either a public or private sector context
• Experience of working with senior management and business owners
• Fluency (written and spoken) in English
• Higher education qualification at Bachelor's Degree level or above
Others
• A working knowledge of Swahili (written and spoken) would be a distinct advantage
• Experience working in Tanzania would be an advantage
