The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a Junior Assistant Researcher with a high level of commitment to provide quality support on a project focused on control of bacterial wilt disease in potato.

The position: The Junior Assistant Researcher position will be based in Lima, Peru (La Molina) and will report to the Leader of the project in the Department of Molecular Pathology. His/her main function is related to execute laboratory and green house experiments aiming at the determination of IpiO variants of P. infestansisolates and their expression in plants containing the RB gene.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Coordinate the maintenance and inoculations of the plants in greenhouse
- Conduct transient expression and infection experiments
- Cloning
- Participate in basic data analysis
- Collaborate in preparation of reports and publications
Selection criteria:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology or related field
- A year of experience in molecular biological research
- Strong customer service orientation
- Problem solving skills taking a consistent action.
- Theoretical and practical knowledge of research and have the ability to conduct activities under supervision
- Experience and strong skills in basic microbiology methods
- Experience and strong skills in basic molecular biology
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in Spanish and advanced English skills are desirable
- Excellent interpersonal and team work skills
- Strong communications skills.
Conditions: This position is local and thus limited to Peruvian nationals and permanent residents.. Employment contract will be for five months with the possibility of renewal.
