Objectives
The African Development Bank is Africa’s premier development finance institution. Within the Bank, the Office of the First Vice-President-Chief Operating Officer (FVP-COO) forms part of reforms introduced in the 2008-2012 MTS designed to improve coherence and coordination across complexes, ensure strategic priorities are reflected in resources allocation, enhance monitoring and management of performance, and strengthen the focus on results.
The Assistant supports the FVP-COO in ensuring efficient coordination of day-to-day management of Bank’s activities, facilitating effective implementation of key decisions and their monitoring, achieving coherence across various Bank complexes, and leading relevant senior management committees and discussions and other consensus building organs.
Duties and responsibilities
Under the general guidance of the First Vice President (FVP/COO), the Assistant will:
- Provide research and analytical support to the FVP/COO on areas of strategic and corporate relevance;
- Coordinate preparations and inputs for Front Office and COO Complex technical meetings;
- Work with other front Offices to prepare regular cross complex updates highlighting for the attention of the FVP/COO any issues requiring attention;
- Support the COO Team in preparing communications to Bank Complexes as appropriate;
- Provide technical support during meetings with internal and external parties, taking minutes and preparing summary notes to facilitate follow up and implementation of decisions;
- Assist with the monitoring of implementation of assignments carried out by the COO Complex
- Manage the agenda of the FVP/COO and coordinate the scheduling and preparations of the FVP/COO meetings with internal or external parties;
- Prepare briefing notes, papers and powerpoint presentations for meetings scheduled, incorporating inputs from other complexes;
- Provide first line monitoring of the institutional dashboard and key Bank’s initiatives and commitments;
- Supervise the Executive Secretary to the FVP/COO;
- Assist on any substantive tasks as requested by the FVP/COO.
Selection Criteria
Including desirable skills, knowledge and experience
- At least a Master degree in Economics, International Development, Public Policies, Finance, Business Administration or any equivalent discipline;
- At least seven (7) years of relevant and pertinent experience;
- Demonstrated ability recognized within or outside the Bank Group, to provide profesional advice on strategic , operational and analytical issues relevant to the FVP/COO’s mandate.
- Experienced and mature judgment;
- Integrity, independence, and ability to work under pressure;
- Ability to work quickly and produce quality product;
- Excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills;
- Competence in the use of the Bank standard software applications;
- Ability to assess problems and develop realistic solutions quickly;
- Ability to work accurately, methodically and able to meet deadlines;
- Trustworthy and able to respect confidentiality;
- Ability to work independently or on team projects;
- Diverse life experience and common sense approach to problem solving;
- Ability to work and cooperate with others from diverse backgrounds;
- Ability to write and speak English and/or French with a working knowledge of the other language.
