Development Media International (www.developmentmedia.net) delivers mass media campaigns to change behaviours and save lives in developing countries. It is the first media organisation to use scientific modelling in order to save the greatest number of lives in the most cost-effective way.
In early 2011, DMI launched the world’s first scientific trial to examine how many lives can be saved using mass media campaigns alone. This major, 4-year project is underway in Burkina Faso, West Africa, in collaboration with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). Our mathematical model predicts that if we could conduct campaigns in 10 countries over the next 10 years, we should save 1.1 million lives. We are looking for a Research Manager to help us achieve this goal.
The Research Manager will be responsible for managing both the quantitative and qualitative research involved in DMI projects, and for designing the research aspects of new projects. We recognise that most applicants will not have both a quantitative and qualitative research background. Our priority is quantitative skills: academic and practical experience in the design, management and analysis of quantitative surveys.
Strong written skills are essential, as evidenced by a publication record in peer reviewed academic journals. Applicants should have a research-focussed PhD or equivalent, followed by significant work experience in developing countries. Practical experience of using statistical analysis and database software is also necessary.
The successful applicant will be based in DMI’s London office but will be expected to travel several times per year.
