BACKGROUND
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is an independent, nonprofit humanitarian organization and has been providing humanitarian relief and development services in the horn of Africa since 1997. Using a protection of human rights framework, DRC Has mainly focused on Somalis who are displaced by conflict. In Somalia, programs include protection, livelihood, food and NFI distribution water and sanitation, and advocacy amongst others, as well as non-operational region-wide initiatives, focusing on advocacy and capacity Building. The Somali operations have offices in Somalia that are supported by the Nairobi regional office. Currently DRC operates more than 40 countries of the world’s poorest countries.
DRC Mogadishu office is seeking qualified candidate for the following position in its South Somalia Program based in Mogadishu.
OVERALL OBJECTIVE
To manage, coordinate and implement NFI/shelter activities in support of DRC Mogadishu programs. The NFI/shelter officer is responsible for providing support required by the NFI/Shelter team performance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Plan and conduct timely NFI/Shelter rapid need assessment as per the project proposal and work plan.
• Participate in and contribute to the development of proposals of NFI/shelters.
• Participate in field assessment and data collection as per guideline and tools provided (FGD, household interview, observation checklists).
• Perform beneficiaries profiling as per guideline and tools provided.
• Verify beneficiary list as per criteria and report default to supervisor.
• Establish and maintain a good working relationship with local authorities and community representatives/leaders.

• Organize and oversee the distribution of NFI/shelter kits is done timely, giving especial attention to the work groups (persons with disabilities, pregnant consulting Liason safety officer.
• Ensure that distribution site is safe and suitable for distribution consulting liaison and safety officer.
• Make sure NFI/Shelter interventions meet minimum standards (SPHARE PROJECT) OR NFI/Shelter cluster guidelines.
• Ensure accountability is applied in NFI/Shelter team has a clear work plan (weekly and monthly) and activities are implemented as per the work plan.
• Compile field and distribution reports.
• Do regular monitoring on project activities as per guideline and tools provided
• Participate in data analysis and debriefing as required before and after data collection exercise
• Participate in NFI Shelter cluster coordination meetings taking place in Mogadishu.
REPORTING ARRANGEMENTS
The NFI/Shelter Officer reports to the Emergency Coordinator, Mogadishu.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Good level of spoken and written English
• Excellent computer skills, MS office word, excel power point and conversant with internet technology;
• Minimum 2 years of experience in emergency interventions
• Proven good performance for the last approval
• Experience in IDP camp and interacting with IDP and representatives
• Bachelor degree in social science or equivalent.
• Good interpersonal skills
• High level of honesty and dedication
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Contract: One year contract (with 3 months’ probation period). This is a national position and open to Somali Nationals only
Location: Mogadishu
Salary: Salary is based on DRC Somalia national scale. This information could be obtained upon request.
