Working with the NAGAAD Network One-year placement
Please note that the selected applicant will be required to take up the placement by October 2012.
The Project and Organisational Development Adviser will be placed in NAGAAD and will work alongside key staff in the organisation on a daily basis, assisting and building their knowledge and skills in implementing the one-year project entitled ‘Promoting Equitable Representation of Women in Decision Making’ - funded by the EC Somalia Unit under the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) Country-Based Support Scheme (CBSS). This will be done through mentoring and coaching and at the same time assisting NAGAAD to address specific organisational development needs.
The successful candidate should have a degree level qualification or equivalent diploma in a relevant discipline.
A minimum of three years’ work experience within the NGO sector in an organisational development/advisory capacity, and on women’s rights and political participation is essential. You should have experience of developing and delivering training materials and group sessions/workshops on the themes of this placement; demonstrable experience in project management (planning, implementation and monitoring of project activities and outcomes), advocacy, campaigning, community mobilisation and networking, fundraising (including developing concept notes/funding proposals and reporting to donors), participatory monitoring and evaluation methods, and of working in a resource poor environment.
You should bring to the role an understanding of the issues facing a post-conflict society and of the role which NGOs play in democratisation processes; knowledge/understanding of areas linked to women’s political participation/marginalisation of women, and of governance issues, especially from a rights-based approach. An understanding of capacity building techniques and methods, and with the ability to share-skills/mentor staff; excellent interpersonal, communication and networking skills, including the ability to communicate and work with a wide range of people in a participatory, respectful, collaborative manner, and to enhance effective work relationships; a sound political judgement, and a clear and strategic approach to coalition building in a highly politicised environment are also essential.
You should also have a high degree of self-sufficiency and initiative; willingness to undertake road travel in Somaliland; cultural sensitivity in an Islamic/Somali environment, and a personal commitment to learning the basics of the Somali language.
