TECHNICIANS (Four Posts)
30.1 Principal duties and responsibilities
Geology
• Undertakes routine systematic geological sample collection, preparation, storage and submission to laboratory for further investigation;
• Assists the geologist in carrying out geological mapping and collection of samples;
• Prepares line profile for data collection;
• Supervises the excavation of trenches and pits;
• Develops individual objectives/targets and performance standards as part of the individual performance agreement in consultation with the immediate supervisor and
• Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Mechanical
• Assesses the equipment and machinery condition and makes recommendation for replacement worn out parts or machinery replacement;
• Performs routine repairs;
• Assesses equipment and machinery condition and makes recommendations for replacement worn out parts;
• Assists the mechanical engineer to ensure that contractual works are carried out in conformity to set standards;
• Recommends replacement of machinery and equipment;
• Develops individual objectives/targets and performance standards as part of the individual performance agreement in consultation with the immediate supervisor and
• Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Survey
• Assists the geologist in preparing exploration grids;
• Assists geologist in preparing topographical draft maps;
• Develops individual objectives/targets and performance standards as part of the individual performance agreement in consultation with the immediate supervisor and
• Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Cartography
• Undertakes cartographical works pertaining to the preparation of geological, geophysical and other drawings including those for engineering works;
• Develops individual objectives/targets and performance standards as part of the individual performance agreement in consultation with the immediate supervisor and
• Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Drilling
• Ensures that the drilling rigs are in safe working condition;
• Ensures that all needed appropriate drilling consumables are available;
• Ensures that drilling safety procedures are adhered to;
• Reports any mechanical problem to the mechanical engineer;
• Assists in preparing field budget;
• Develops individual objectives/targets and performance standards as part of the individual performance agreement in consultation with the immediate supervisor and
• Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate.
Mining
• Ensures drilling rigs are in good working condition;
• Follows and adheres to safety and health measures;
• Prepares mining equipment, materials, tools and accessories as mining plan;
• Develops individual objectives/targets and performance standards as part of the individual performance agreement in consultation with the immediate supervisor and
• Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Geophysics
• Identifies all instruments for field work;
• Develops individual objectives/targets and performance standards as part of the individual performance agreement in consultation with the immediate supervisor and
• Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate superior.
Instrumentation
• Calibrates geophysical instruments;
• Develops individual objectives/targets and performance standards as part of the individual performance agreement in consultation with the immediate supervisor and
• Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate superior.
Mineral Processing and Engineering Services
• Operates and ensures efficient running of the plant;
• Develops individual objectives/targets and performance standards as part of the individual performance agreement in consultation with the immediate supervisor and
• Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate superior.
Laboratory
• Keeps safe custody of laboratory equipment and chemicals;
• Prepares and ensures laboratory chemical reagents, equipment, instruments and apparatus for mineral testing;
• Records all received samples from the mines in a sample log book;
• Prepares reagents and equipment needed for laboratory operations and sample analysis;
• Cleans and keeps the laboratory in neat and proper condition;
• Cleans laboratory equipment and apparatus after use;
• Arranges properly equipment, instruments and apparatus in the laboratory;
• Follows laboratory operating procedures for each test of mineral samples;
• Develops individual objectives/targets and performance standards as part of individual performance agreement in consultation with the immediate Supervisor;
• Performs other duties as assigned by immediate Supervisor;
• Develops individual objectives/targets and performance standards as part of the individual performance agreement in consultation with the immediate supervisor and
• Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate superior
Small Scale Mining (mechanical, mineral processing, electrical)
• Trains small scale miners on mine construction, material handling, installation of ore hoisting systems, blasting, safety e.g. ventilation, environmental management and health measures;
• Repairs and maintains machines, equipment and tools in the workshop;
• Assists clients in the installation of new machinery and equipment;
• Develops individual objectives/targets and performance standards as part of the individual performance agreement in consultation with the immediate supervisor; and
• Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate super
30.2 Professional Qualifications
Holder of a diploma in or FTC in relevant discipline from a recognized Institution.
30.3 Competence among others are:-
• Ability to communicate with excellent writing skills;
• Ability to supervise others;
• Strong working knowledge of computer programs: Microsoft word, Excel, Publisher.
30.4 Remuneration
According to STAMICO schemes of service in the salary scale of STAMICO - Salary Scale SMC 3.
