General: the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) is a non-profit international research organization, serving a global mandate to improve management of water and land for food, livelihoods and nature. IWMI headquarters is located in Colombo, Sri Lanka and one of its sub-regional office is located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. IWMI is one of the 15 research centers supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
The Position: The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) seeks a highly competent and motivated individual for the position of Communication and Project Management Officer. The successful candidate will be based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Main Duties:
- Assists the Office Head, Office Manager, Project Leaders and Researchers in documentation and follows-up of Projects;
- Develops and implements project documentation template and database;
- Assists project leaders in keeping track of project milestones (reporting, meetings/workshops)
- Categorizes project based on objectives, spatial coverage, funding, etc.;
- Contributes to the preparation of project proposals to ensure inclusion of clear communications and uptake strategies, and activities;
- Facilitates the process of developing and implementing communications and uptakes strategies for individual projects that are already ongoing;
- Works with research staff to develop communication products and uptakes messages customized for different clients, and identifies the most appropriate dissemination channels for different products;
- Helps to organize, coordinates and takes part in events held by IWMI (conferences, workshops, etc.);
- Ensures that communication material and uptake plans are in place to maximize impact;
- Monitors and evaluates the progress made towards projects, communications and research uptake goals, and ensure that details from this are fed back into program implementation and strategy, and communicated widely; and
- Works closely with IWMI’s Information and Knowledge Group (IKG) and the Global Science Uptake Coordinator to align communications and uptake strategies for the Institute in the region and globally.

- First degree in Business Administration, Communications, International Development, Sociology, Management or other related field
WORK EXPERIENCE:
• At least 5 years of relevant work experience

SKILLS:
- The jobholder requires knowledge and practical understanding of a variety of tasks in a system i.e. methods, systems and processes. Knowledge and insight are required for the application of practical methods and techniques, work procedures and processes and/or proficiency in the specialized use of materials, equipment and tools. Knowledge is typically acquired through technical training.

Monthly Base Salary: Base salary of Birr 13,556 (Negotiable, depending on experience, skill and salary history of the candidate)
