World Vision Tanzania is seeking to recruit a suitable candidate to fill the following position:

Job Title : Wealth Generation Senior Research and Learning Officer
Reports to : Programm manager
Location : Arusha, Tanzania
Purpose of the position:
This position will be responsible for coordinating and implementing a research project as well as support Coordination of partnership academic program between WV East Africa and Southern Adventist University (USA). Specifically, the position will be responsible for designing and implementing a collection of data and literature related to wealth generation and social issues resulting from that success.
Major Responsibilities:
· Prepare a paper on Tanzanian (specific tribal groups) attitudes to money and wealth generation and distribution
· Prepare a paper on formal and informal social norms in the research locations. This should include how norms are being undermined.
· Prepare survey instruments according to the key research questions outlined in the project design document and findings from literature review
· Prepare rationale for sampling (eg purposive vs random, adults vs children, etc.), why certain instruments will be best with certain groups etc.
· Ensure coordination with, and input from, key stakeholders and advisors, viz:
o MLAP Secretariat and WVT Operations Division
o Religious leaders and government officials from research locations
o Christian Commitment staff from WVT and EARO
· Initiate link to, and get advice from, academic institution/s
· Ensure instruments are checked by WVT Quality Assurance department
· Prepare Terms Of Reference (TOR) for survey implementation
· Determine logistics for data collection, particularly coordinating with ADP managers and special project managers
· Organizes training for data collectors
· Prepare a budget and manage expenses for data collection
· Prepare report format for approval
· Analyze data and organize narrative, tabular and visual means of recording and reporting the findings
· Prepare range of reports for stakeholders:
o Comprehensive report with full documentation and appendices
o Summary report of all findings
· Highlight reports/presentations for MLAP secretariat, religious leaders and CC
· Where there is opportunity to present at forums and conferences, development sector and tertiary institutions and/or publish findings
· Organizes and store all documents in retrievable filing for key stakeholders ie EARO CC Learning Centre, WVT senior management, WVT CC team, WV Australia
· Coordinate partnership with SAU to ensure that the program runs smoothly
· Coordinate with SAU faculty to host Arusha based residences
· Communicate to all students and faculty on residences logistics
- Regularly liaise with and report on progress to Andrew Newmarch in WVA
- Perform work safely and complete tasks on time, on budget and in accordance with expectations

- Be pro-active in caring for the health and safety of all people within our work environment
- Ensure all appropriate actions are taken to implement OH&S policies, procedures, training, and legislative requirements
- Demonstrate initiative in implementing actions that facilitate the continuous improvement of OH&S

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Degree in social science discipline eg Anthropology or Sociology, preferably at Masters level
Desirable:
- Knowledge of the international development sector, its history, diversity and theories
Understanding of the Christian foundations of World Vision and their application to development practice
Essential:
- Data collection design – for surveys, interviews and focus group discussions
- Literature reviews from academic and institutional sources
- Ability to analyses collected data and organize information into succinct presentations and papers
- Fluency in both written and spoken Swahili and English
Desirable:
Familiarity with software applications such as SPSS
Essential:
- Has conducted research through surveys
- Has written research essays or documents
- Strong networking skills
Desirable:
Work in the development sector with application of research to practice
Ability to discern what drives a person’s view of religious activity and how to discern when to feed information, when to ask for information, when to challenge information and at what level of complexity
Ability to respect the perspective being offered by other people on religion, and Christianity in particular.
