The jobholder identifies, coordinates, and collaborates to ensure the timely provision of Operational Sourcing level C&P solutions in support of East Africa asset activities centred in Kenya. |
Championing the BG Group HSSE agenda, and demonstrating safety leadership in C&P.
Ensuring contractor selection, award and performance management processes drive optimal HSSE performance.
Ensuring integration of the BG Kenya C&P requirements with East Africa Asset and Group C&P agenda, and contributing and recommending changes to asset strategies and best practice processes.
Identifying the need for, and integrating the input of, experts from other functions and external consultants, and in particular from other members of the East Africa C&P Team.
Building and maintaining a high performing C&P operation consistent with Group C&P and Ethical Compliance Standards, and BG Business Principles.
Acting as mentor and role model for other Asset C&P staff, and championing the BG Group Behaviours.
Acting as an ambassador for BG when interacting within the external supplier and stakeholder communities, especially in demonstrating a zero tolerance approach to corruption.
Working in close collaboration with the East Africa C&P Team, and appropriate Global C&P Category Teams to ensure development and implementation of category plans and C&P strategies to optimise value for the business.
Developing and sustaining capabilities to ensure deep understanding of local and regional supply markets in order to identify opportunities and mitigate risk.
Ensuring development and execution of robust contracts and contract management plans, and procurement strategies.
Ensuring implementation of robust Contractor Performance Management (CPM) and Contractor Relationship Management (CRM) Processes.
Ensuring familiarity and working in compliance with BG Business Principles, Policies and Standards in delivering C&P in Kenya.
Ensuring team activities are conducted in accordance with the BG Group Policy and Standards, and where feasible utilizing Group C&P systems architecture.
Undertaking due diligence to mitigate risk from supplier selection through to contract execution.
Ensuring compliance with PSA /JV stipulations in order to minimise risks to eventual cost recovery.
Establishing external relationships with cross-industry peers to maintain knowledge and understanding of the business environment and developments in C&P theory and practice, assessing their impact and maximizing benefits to Asset/Project and C&P Function

Experienced leader having previously managed C&P activities for an Operator, or major services provider in the upstream energy sector, or similar major industrial enterprise, with a consistent record of delivery in a number of substantial roles, normally including international experience.
Has a record of developing and improving safety management and ethical conduct through C&P leadership. Demonstrates application of a zero tolerance mindset to unsafe acts and situations, and potential, perceived or proposed breaches in ethical conduct.
Experienced in working and being influential internally at GM level, and externally with senior managers of suppliers, contractors and peers in Joint Venture partners, regulators and host governments. Experienced in identifying and developing external relationships and networks.
Record of good performance and value delivery in a category management led C&P environment. Experience of developing effective, sustainable contracts in different markets and categories. Experienced in developing and managing effective C&P processes, and operating ERP systems.
Track record of excellence in self management, experienced in identifying and developing own agenda and priorities whilst meeting the twin objectives of satisfying the immediate requirements of internal customers in a timely manner balanced against the longer term development requirements of the wider organisation.
Educated to university degree level in a technical or business related discipline; membership of a relevant professional body. Fluent in the English language, and able to communicate effectively in complex written and oral presentations.
Fully competent with C&P fundamentals, processes and standards, and is able to identify and apply good practice in all phases of the C&P sourcing process. Fundamental understanding of the operation of local, regional and complex international supply chains. Able to develop and implement both simple and complex sourcing activities and category management approaches in line with C&P strategy, and contribute to regional and global initiatives. Demonstrates good analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively in ad-hoc cross-functional teams.
Understands and leads application and compliance with relevant regulatory, legislative and ethical standards and requirements. Familiar with legal and taxation aspects of contracting, application of liability and indemnity regimes and insurances, experienced in negotiating and drafting contract documents to an appreciable level of complexity with limited support and assistance.
High level of industry knowledge, and understanding of BG Group’s position in the market and how to maximise competitive advantage. Strong base of cross-industry contacts in the oil & gas C&P community including major operators and contractors.
High level of computer literacy, fully familiar with operating the SAP Materials Management module ERP system. Prior experience with operating Contract Management software, as well as commercially available web based market intelligence systems.
