TRANSMISSION LINE ENGINEERS

POSITION OBJECTIVE
To be responsible for maintenance of all high voltage transmission line network (220 KV down to 66KV) in order to maintain reliability and quality of power supply to dispatching centre(s) and advice the Principal Transmission Engineer, Head office on safe, efficient and economic solutions to improve performance of the National Grid.
Principal Accountabilities;
- Preparation and submission of budget for Transmission maintenance, track and control expenditure to ensure that it is in line with approved budget.
- Plan, monitor and control regional repair and maintenance activities within area of transmission line boundaries in order to ensure the most effective utilization of resources and the achievement of objectives and targets and that the works are done in line with the best standards and practices in the industry.
- Plan, supervise and implement preventive/predictive maintenance of the transmission line network including the use of live line techniques in order to minimize downtime in power transmission.
- Identify the training and development needs of team members and implement appropriate training programme to ensure that staff acquire and maintain the knowledge and skills needed for them to meet their performance objectives.
- Establish a functional approach to attend emergency troubleshooting works to ensure power restoration in the shortest possible time in event of severe system faults.
- To carry out regular inventory, control and monitoring of tools and equipment including vehicles to ensure their rational utility and availability and that spares parts for transmission lines maintenance are always available
- Liaising with other staff to prepare technical specifications for transmission line requirements to ensure that procurement of goods and works conform to the specifications and standards required.
- Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports to ensure there is accurate and up to date information of the transmission line infrastructure status.
- Ensure Safety of staff and equipment at all time and make sure that “Risk assessment” is conducted before carrying out any work as per standing TANESCO safety provisions.
- Provide technical advice on losses reduction to ensure grid network sustainability.
- Perform other transmission related duties as you may be assigned by your superior.

Also to participate in new transmission infrastructure construction works
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

- Full Technician Certificate (FTC) or Diploma in Civil or Electrical Engineering from accredited Institution.
- Registered Technician with Engineers Registration Board) ERB) is an added advantage

LIVE LINE LINESMEN

Job purpose
Linesman, responsible for proper Preventive Maintenance of Transmission lines infrastructure under hot/Live (energized at 66kV, 132kV and 220kV) lines conditions as directed by Live Line Foreman.
Principal Accountabilities:
- To do maintenance of Transmission lines under Live Line conditions on lines of voltage level 66kV and above as instructed by the Live Line Foreman .
- To ensure disc insulators, vibration dampers, amour rods, u-bolts, plates etc are properly fixed in position to the required standards
- To ensure proper use of live line working equipment.
- To do refinishing of hot sticks as instructed by Live Line Foreman.
- To strictly observe safety Rules that govern live line works.
- To perform any other relevant official duties as may be assigned by the Foreman.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Ordinary Level certificate of secondary education.
- Relevant Technical Vocational Training (Trade Test) from recognized Vocational Training Institution.
-Advanced Level Certificate of Secondary Education will be an added advantage.
KEY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & PERSONAL TRAITS
- Good knowledge on writing and speaking Swahili and English languages.
- Good team player, courageous, outstanding healthy, able to work at 45m high and above on transmission infrastructure.
OTHER ATTRIBUTES FOR ALL POSTS:
Ability to learn fast and adapt to changes. Willingness and ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
