The WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature), an international conservation organization, is seeking for a competent and highly motivated Coordinator for OID, Energy Access & Extractives, to be based in Dares Salaam. The Coordinator will have major functions of coordinating the OID, Energy access &
Extractives programmes/projects implementation in Tanzania.
Specific Tasks
Promotes and supports The WWF Eastern and Southern African Programme Office (ESARPO) energy strategy so as to ensure priority landscapes and flagship species are not negatively impacted by energy development, Oil & Gas and Extractives, while ensuring that access to sustainable energy services and access is expanded in line with a projection to meet a 100% energy access target for Tanzania by 2015; Promotes and Coordinates the Extractives industry, Oil and Gas programmes andlor projects; Coordinates the WWF TCO engagement and participation on energy access and climate policies, laws and with institutions both state and civil society; Promote and advocate for Strategic' Environmental Assessment (SEA) and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for investments in Extractive Industry, renewable energy development particularly for hydropower (e.g. sustainability criteria, upstream-downstream partnerships etc) and on Oil and Gas for Development (OID); Gathers knowledge and disseminates it throughout WWF TCO and its partners on best practices in energy development and access, Extractive Industry transparency (EIT), Oil & Gas for development (OID) from within and outside the WWF Network and/or its partners both local and international.
Required Qualifications and Skills
A Master's degree in energy and/or climate studies, development studies, Social Sciences, Environmental and Natural Resource Management; At least 3 years of professional experience; Experience in sustainable energy development systems is an added advantage; Experience in civil society organizational capacity development, lobbying, advocacy, natural resources management is a must; Fluency in English and Swahili is also a prerequisite.
