Information Technology (IT) Technician AVRDC
The World Vegetable Center is a nonprofit, autonomous international agricultural research center with headquarters in Taiwan and regional offices around the globe. AVRDC conducts research and development programs that contribute to alleviating poverty and malnutrition in the developing world through the increased production and consumption of nutritious and health-promoting vegetables. AVRDC's Regional Center for Africa (RCA) located in Arusha conducts vegetable research and training and provides information services for the benefit of its stakeholders in the horticultural sector in Africa. To implement its growing activities especially in research and training, the Center is looking for a Information Technology (IT) Technician under the Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) Category. This position is open for Tanzanian citizens only.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will functionally report to the Manager – Information Technology Services at AVRDC headquarters in Taiwan and administratively report to the Regional Director, and provide networking, security, backup, hardware and software maintenance support services.
Main Activities
- Set up and manage hardware, required software, security, backup/restore services and secure network access
- Advise on security breaches and/or changes in security status
- Manage and troubleshoot VPNs, LAN, WAN, routers and switches
- Set up and manage Active Directory, remote software installation and configuration, visualization and security (including perimeters and end-point management)
- Troubleshoot hardware, software and network systems to ensure smooth operations
- Coordinate with local IT service providers and participate in the transfer and documentation of knowledge
- Maintain inventory of hardware, software and resources
- Liaise with IT staff at headquarters routinely
- Maintain logs of required repairs and maintenance
- Provide network access to staff and visitors
- A degree or equivalent in Computer Systems.
- About 2-3 years experience in providing similar services.
