Organizational Setting and Reporting
The post is located in the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, Information and Evidence Support Section (IESS). The incumbent will work under the general supervision of the Chief of IESS. This post is part of the ICTR Archiving Project.
Responsibilities
The incumbent of the post will be responsible for the following duties:
In coordination with the Chief, IESS and the Archiving assistants, conduct search and select relevant Kinyarwanda material in the Zyfind database and provide initial analysis, summary and translation, when needed, for inclusion into the ZyLab database;
Carefully revise the detailed metadata ensuring that information pertaining to events and persons are accurately entered into the database and undertake corrective action where necessary;
Analyze error patterns to determine whether adjustments to inputting techniques are required;
Recommend to the Chief, IESS procedures for the updating of the OTP evidence databases;
Assist the OTP in special projects regarding obligations under the Rules of Procedure and Evidence, in particular regarding disclosure obligations; thoroughly search the database and carefully review material in Kinyarwanda in order to advise what material may be relevant;
Perform any other linguistic duties as directed by the Chief, IESS.

Education
High school diploma. University degree or additional training in language, literature, law, history, political science or related field would be an asset.
Work Experience
A minimum of six years of experience in an international legal environment, in the field of translation of Kinyarwanda documents into English or French. Experience searching databases such as Trim, ZyFind, CaseMap and Gelod is highly desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the UNICTR. For the post advertised, fluency in Kinyarwanda, and in either English or French is required.
Assessment Method
Evaluation of qualified applicants may include a written assessment which may be followed by a competency-based interview.
Special Notice
Extension of the appointment is subject to the extension of the mandate of the ICTR and/or the availability of funds.
