The East African Development Bank and the Climate Change Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) have in partnership established a Regional Collaboration Centre (“RCC”) for the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) in Kampala, Uganda.
The RCC Kampala will support 25 countries located in the Eastern, Southern and Northern African regions. It is one of the five RCCs established globally with the aim of helping countries currently under represented in the CDM to increase their attractiveness and potential for the CDM, by helping to build their capacity for CDM project development and reduce the risk for investors. To achieve this aim, the RCC has the following core activities:
a)To provide direct support to the development of CDM Project Activities and Programme of Activities (POAs), both potential projects and those that are undergoing processing at different stages of the CDM project cycle; and
b)To identify opportunities for the development of standardized baselines and provide direct support to relevant institutions in the submission of proposals, including projects that could benefit from such standardized baselines
