ICTJ is seeking an Institutional Learning intern for summer 2013 in our New York headquarters. ICTJ links experience from its many field programs with its research in transitional justice. This allows ICTJ to develop, test and refine field practices and remain a research leader. ICTJ uses this knowledge to inform and advise governments, civil society and other stakeholders working on behalf of victims. It seeks to persuade those stakeholders, the media and the general public of the need for justice and accountability.
The intern will work in the Institutional Learning Unit, which provides technical support in program design, monitoring and evaluation to our country and thematic programs. Under an internal “Design, Monitoring and Evaluation (DME) initiative”, ICTJ has progressively incorporated DME practices into its program management. As the field of Transitional Justice is still new, ICTJ has been adapting innovative DME approaches to measure impact and performance of its program. In the coming months the IL will continue to provide support on country program evaluation processes and seeks to develop additional monitoring tools and guidance for our teams in the field.
Duties may include:
- Develop monitoring and evaluation tools specific to Transitional Justice programs (to supplement the existing ones). In particular, thematic guidance notes on M&E approaches.
- Help the ongoing development of the indicator database
- Provide assistance in the preparation of one project final evaluation
- Perform other tasks assigned in relation to the technical assistance in M&E or knowledge management.
Dates are flexible: 3 to 6 months starting July, 2013.
Qualifications
- Sound research background, autonomous.
- Knowledge of international human rights law and transitional justice are highly desirable.
- Experience overseas is desirable.
