Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Medical Officer of the Section, the incumbent will perform the following duties and responsibilities:

Prepare list of laboratory equipment necessary for the proper functioning of the Health Services Unit

Prepare list of laboratory reagents necessary for the proper delivery of health services to clients of theICTR Staff, their dependants and detainees

Assist in the procurement of the laboratory equipment and reagents Maintain records of all the laboratory supplies and equipment

Prepare requests for laboratory reagents replenishment in a timely manner

Perform all laboratory tests requested by medical officer and other medical consultants assigned to theUNDF and ICTR clinic

Collect laboratory samples from patients

Prepare monthly and quarterly statistics of tests performed in the laboratory confidential maintenance of laboratory results and records

Participate in delivering health education to staff and their dependants Be on call outside normal office hours and holidays

Assist the Nurse in UNICTR and UNDF clinics when not engaged in performing the duties of Laboratory Technician Recognizes and assess the clinical significance of each laboratory result, initiates communication with responsible physician regarding significant or abnormal values which may result in the performance of other tests or to provide optimal patient care Operates a variety of routine and specialized clinical laboratory instruments and equipment in the collection, processing, description and analysis of specimen, performs preventive maintenance of equipment

Perform other duties considered necessary for the well functioning of the Clinics by the Medical Officer

Education:Completion of Secondary School Education. Diploma from a recognized Medical School and/or Institution

Work Experience:At least five years of experience performing laboratory technician functions. Experience working within the United Nations common system or International Organization is highly desirable.

Language:   English and French are the working languages of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French is an asset. Knowledge of Swahili is also an asset.

Other skills:High attention to details, good laboratory skills, excellent organizational skills, interpersonal skills and good communication skills, as well as computer literate. Familiarity with the concepts of a paperless office and electronic file management is desired.
