The Position
Aga Khan Hospital is undertaking a project to develop its next phase that will see the development (Phase 2) of a tertiary facility including a comprehensive cardiology programme, oncology services, neurosciences, orthopaedics & trauma, diagnostic imaging, critical care, obstetrics and paediatrics. Construction expected to begin in one year.

Various aspects of the Phase 2 plans will be based on the concept of regional programmes operating on two sites (i.e. AKH-Dar and AKUH-N), and thus will be closely aligned with the recently developed Heart and Cancer Centre of the Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi. One of the first regional programmes to be established will be the Cardiac Programme.

The Catherization Lab Technician will work with the Phase 2 project team and other senior colleagues to support the cardiac programme at AKH-Dar with the aim to ensure the delivery of quality service to cardiology patients. The technician will work closely with the cardiologist to provide information relevant to the patient's diagnosis and treatment.

Responsibilities

Provide technical and patient support for cardiac patients and cases.

Assist the cardiologist during invasive and non-invasive procedures.

Assess the procedure room to ensure all equipment is functioning as per standard.

Demonstrate technical proficiency for all cardiac catheterization procedures.

Demonstrate excellent knowledge of all cath lab equipment and administers direct/indirect care to patients undergoing invasive cardiac procedures.

Educate the patient of procedure expectations before, during and after the procedure in a professional manner.

Exhibit knowledge of and leadership in clinical practice, staff development and departmental support roles.

Provide overall support to the cardiac programme.

Support the implementation of quality assurance programmes and activities.

The Requirements
The ideal candidate will have the following profile:

Diploma in radiologic technology or Certificate in cardiovascular technology.

2 years experience with invasive diagnostic and/or interventional cardiology procedures.
