Reporting to the Security Manager we seek to appoint a Security Superintendent - Operations at our Bulyanhulu gold mining operation (BGML) in Tanzania. This position is responsible to oversee the protection of assets and personnel of BGML from the risk and threat of loss from crime and waste in the most cost effective and timely manner.
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• To implement and maintain effective protection and security policies and control mechanisms to ensure the ongoing security of BGML’s assets and employees.
• Assist in the development of an effective security strategy for BGML to ensure maximum protection and response capability to deal appropriately with any threat to BGML’s operations.
• Assist with the development of and implementation of measures to ensure that the security team complies with BGML’s policies and procedures to deliver best practice in security and risk management.
• Guide, influence and educate line management on all matters relating to emergency and security issues to ensure appropriate support is provided on security matters on site.
• Provide leadership to the team to ensure the development of a working environment that is conducive to the achievement of budgeted KPI’s and that security employees achieve their full potential by gaining new skills through the provision of effective mentoring and training programmes.
• Provide the leadership necessary to ensure that employees and contractors adhere to safety and environmental standards that exceed worldwide industry standards and any applicable legislation.
• Develop relationships and networks to monitor activity within the local area specifically, and Tanzania generally to ensure that BGML is thoroughly briefed on any potential threat to its employees, assets and ongoing operations.
• Implement employee performance management processes to ensure optimum employee performance and take appropriate action to remedy any substandard employee performance or behaviour.
• Liaise closely with regulatory authorities including the police to ensure that any losses and criminal activity affecting Bulyanhulu’s operations and business are reported, investigated and dealt with appropriately.
• Liaison with security system and equipment maintenance contractors to ensure regular servicing.
• Control the reporting of faults to ensure the completion of repairs and upgrades in a cost effective and efficient manner.
• Continually review every aspect of the areas’ activities to ensure that opportunities to add value and enhance shareholder wealth are identified and implemented.

• Shall be responsible for ensuring that Barrick Group Security Strategies and audit action plans are appropriately resourced on site.
• Shall ensure that an appropriate hand over of security matters, including security hardware operation and security procedures, be conducted by the site upon turnover of staff who have involvement with security functions.
• Shall ensure that security procedures manuals in accordance with these security standards are held on site.
• Shall ensure that a security electronics service contract or a site-based capability is in place and maintained by site.
• Shall be responsible for ensuring compliance with all reporting requirements related to the security systems or security events and making this information available in a timely manner to legitimate parties who require the information.
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
Education Requirements:
• Bachelors degree in related field an asset
Experience Requirements:
• Extensive security background at a management level.
• Police and/or Military experience preferred.
• Proven and developed leadership skills and ability to prepare and implement tactically sound orders to combat adverse incidents.
• Ability to influence key stakeholders and foster excellent working relationships.
• Proven and developed administrative skills.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to prepare detailed reports.
• Ability to formulate, introduce and enforce written procedures to maintain company policy.
