Major Responsibilities
- As part of the Children & Youth team, provide technical assistance to transitional justice measures to promote the meaningful involvement of children and youth in their processes.
- Support the design of statement taking tools and methodology, youth engagement activities, truth commission hearings, and other components of transitional justice measures.
- Conduct research that deepens ICTJ’s approach to children and youth issues related to transitional justice, with a view to proposing models which incorporate best practices in psychosocial protection and genuine child participation.
- Develop training materials and other communications tools on the reasoning and methodology for involving children in transitional justice processes, with guidance from Program Head.
- Coordinate programmatic work on specific areas, including providing input on strategy, content, & evaluation, and managing relationships with external partners, as directed by Program Head.
- Coordinate the administrative operations of the Children and Youth Program, including: building, modifying, & reporting on budgets; compiling financial reports for donors; submitting & tracking expenses; coordinating contracts and payments for consultants; providing logistical support for missions and conferences; participating in the drafting of program narrative reports for internal and external audiences; and generally fulfilling the logistical needs of the team as they arise.
- Other responsibilities as needed.
Position Scope
Duties involve a wide range of areas of responsibility, and require sophisticated understanding of the conceptual frameworks involved as well as the ability to innovate. Occasional international travel is expected.
Program Responsibility
- Provide support to programs or projects through daily activities, working closely with Program/Senior Associates and Program Director.
Fiscal Responsibility
- Responsible for making sure ICTJ resources are used effectively and that assigned expenses and revenues reflect budget goals.
Contacts
- Incumbent has regular contact with external partners for the provision of technical assistance, and regular contact with staff in other offices to coordinate execution of program activities. Incumbent has frequent contact with contractors, partners, funders, vendors and other agencies.
Supervision
- Reports to Program Head.
Position Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degree in psychology, social work, sociology, anthropology, political science or history desired.
Experience
- 2-3 years’ experience working on children/youth issues and transitional justice or related field preferred, minimum 3 years professional experience required.
Related Skills or Knowledge
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills in English. Ability to multi-task, work well under pressure, meet deadlines and be organized and detail-oriented. Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism. Spanish, French, and/or Arabic language skills highly desirable; other languages may also be useful. High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, required. An interest and commitment to the institutional goals of ICTJ.
