UN-Water Decade Programme on Capacity Development (UNW-DPC):
The UN-Water Decade Programme on Capacity Development (UNW-DPC) started work on 1 August 2007. The aim of the programme office is to strengthen the activities of the more than two dozen UN organizations and programmes already cooperating within the inter-agency mechanism known as UN-Water, and to strengthen their activities and support them in their efforts to achieve the millennium goals related to water. UNW-DPC is hosted by the United Nations University.

UN-Water Activity Information System (UNW-AIS):
The UNW-AIS ( www.ais.unwater.org) is an online platform for presenting and sharing information on water-related projects and learning initiatives from UN-Water member agencies, partners and programmes. It is part of UN-Waters effort to strengthen coordination and coherence between UN entities dealing with issues related to all aspects of freshwater and sanitation.
Responsibilities:
Under the authority of the director of UNW-DPC and direct supervision of the Programme Officer and the Associate Analyst Programmer, the successful candidate shall carry out the following tasks:
1. Contribute to Maintenance and Upgrading of UN-Water Activity Information System (UNW-AIS, www.ais.unwater.org)
- Assist in running regular test routines on the information system;
- Support programming, especially client-side programs in javascript;
- Support user management;
- Assist in preparation of Help Manuals and Process Documentation.
2. Contribute to Development of the Virtual Learning Environment in UNW-AIS
- Assist in configuration of Moodle platforms;
- Assist in customization of user guides and other documents for the Virtual Learning Environment.
3. Collect Data and Update Content of the UNW-AIS
- Collect, process and add content into the information system using the Content Management System (CMS);
- Clean and update data.
4. Support the UNW-DPC team in various activities, in particular related to the UNW-DPC website (www.unwater.unu.edu), event and activity management, updating databases and preparing input into reports and publications.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum two years of paid and/or unpaid experience in the area of information and knowledge management;
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent would be an asset;
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with Web 2.0 technologies;
- Good knowledge of html technologies including java script;
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and associated common data upload formats;
- Knowledgeable in programming languages like PHP;
- Experienced and aware of relational databases, e-learning systems and online platforms;
- Fluency in both oral and written English;
- Ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds;
- Highly motivated and team-oriented;
- Interest in water-related issues would be an asset.
Remuneration:
Remuneration will commensurate with qualification and experience.
Duration of Contract:
The successful candidate will be based at UNW-DPC in Bonn on a part-time (20 hours per week) basis under the Consultant Contract (CTC) category for a period of six (6) months with the possibility of extension upon satisfactory performance.
The successful candidate will not hold civil servant status nor be a "staff member" as defined in the United Nations Staff Rules and Regulations. This is a locally recruited position; no relocation expenses or allowances apply. Suitably qualified women candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.
