Rationale and context of the assignment:
The Project Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of activities (at the regional level) related to the Connecting Classrooms and Digital Citizenship and Safety programmes, as part of a 1-year partnership UNICEF has established with Nokia. Furthermore, the consultant will support the preparation, delivery and follow-up of a social media training session for Communication Officers in the ESARO region and support country offices in the development of local social media strategies.
Responsibilities
Social Media (70%): • Support the regional office in the preparation and delivery of a regional social media training for communication colleagues in the ESARO region
• Contribute to the development of a social media strategy/framework for ESARO • Support country offices on requests related to creation of social media accounts, social media events, etc. • Offer distance training to country offices and support them in the development of local strategies.
Partnership with Nokia (30%) • Coordinate the implementation of the partnership in the region in close collaboration with HQ, regional office and country offices (Zambia, Kenya and South Africa) • Support the participating country offices • Liaise with HQ and project managers in all aspects related to the project • Contribute to the preparation of reports, budgets updates, etc. • Identify, grow and maintain a network of partners interested in the projects
Qualifications or specialized knowledge/ experience required • Experience in supporting and coordinating project activities across a large organization and with other international partner organizations, with at least 2 years experience in project planning and implementation. • Experience in social and civic media required. • Proven skills in communication, networking, strategic thinking, advocacy, negotiation, and ability to relate this to new media and young people. • Proven ability to conceptualize, plan and execute projects as well as transfer knowledge and skills. • Strong writing and communication skills and the aptitude to handle competing messages and priorities with multiple audiences. • Relevant grass-root experience and field work in selected regions. • Strong awareness of cultural sensitivities. • Expertise in innovative technology development and implementation. • Proven ability to present and communicate new projects to a varied audience. • Solid knowledge of project requirements and partner organizations. • Proven skills in communication, networking, strategic thinking, advocacy, negotiation, and ability to relate to a young audience. • Proven ability to work as part of a multicultural team. • Understanding of UNICEF programmes and policy including knowledge of youth participation and partnership goals. • Bring evidence of success in working with social and civic media and on-line initiatives for children and young people. • High command of English. Other languages such as Spanish and French are a plus.
