Tetra Tech ARD REDD+ DEPUTY SOCIAL SCIENCE AND ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST TASK LEAD - FOREST CARBON, MARKETS, AND COMMUNITIES
Tetra Tech ARD (www.tetratechard.com) is accepting expressions of interest from qualified Social Science and Environmental Specialist candidates for the Forests Carbon, Markets and Communities program (FCMC). FCMC is contributing to the evolving international REDD+ framework and building capacity in selected USAID partner countries to achieve long-term net emissions reductions from forests and land use. This program focuses on five technical areas: Social and Environmental Soundness (SES); Finance and Carbon Markets; Low Emission Development Strategies; Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV); and Cross-Cutting Issues. This full-time position will be based in Washington, D.C. and will require periodic international travel (at least 20%).
Responsibilities: Serve as the Deputy Task Lead for the Social and Environmental Soundness Task. Assist the SES Task Lead to
collaborate across technical areas to in support of integrated work. Activities may include, but are not limited to: * Representing FCMC to U.S., partner country government representatives, and other public speaking and outreach; * Carrying out rapid assessments and evaluations of USAID REDD+ projects, assessing relevant social and environmental issues, and identifying priority actions for support; * Managing the production of deliverables from partner organizations and consultants; * Delivering training to USAID staff and partner country collaborators; * Potentially, managing and providing technical oversight for pilot and demonstration activities in host countries, while based in the US; * Coordinating with the SES Task Lead and other task leads on other areas of interest in the FCMC portfolio; and * Establishing and maintaining productive and positive relationships with USAID, international government officials, multilateral and bilateral donor organizations, foundations, and local partners.
Qualifications: * Educational requirements include an advanced degree, PhD highly preferred, in anthropology, rural sociology, or a related discipline, with considerable expertise in natural resource management, biodiversity, forest conservation, ethnobotany, and/or climate change; * Good communication skills, particularly in public speaking and/or teaching or delivering training courses. * Demonstrated knowledge of REDD+, voluntary carbon markets, and multilateral programs and policy processes including the UNFCCC ; * Technical experience designing, working on, and or managing, USAID funded projects; * Experience managing and implementing natural resource programs, and overseeing diverse field consultants; * Experience collaborating with complex field operations in closed and/or transitional or developing countries; * Experience delivering training (materials and facilitation) to diverse audiences; * Experience in working with stakeholder consultation processes; * English and Spanish proficiency required;
* Experience working in Latin America is required; * U.S. citizenship or a valid U.S. work permit is mandatory.
