The Barrick Technology Centre is a state of the art metallurgical testing facility located in Vancouver, Canada. It has experts in mineralogy, mineral processing, analytical chemistry, leaching, environmental practices, pressure oxidation, roasting and process modeling.
Purpose:
- To identify, research, develop and test flotation technologies and innovative processes for the safe and environmentally sound processing of gold, copper and other ores
- To provide on-site commissioning and operation support
Responsibilities:
- Ensure that metallurgical programs are carried out meeting environmental and safety requirements
- Lead and mentor a team of metallurgists, technicians and summer students to deliver high quality results on time and on budget
- Develop project budget, track costs, provide forecasts and change orders when necessary
- Manage metallurgical test work programs with focusing on flotation bench and pilot plant projects
- Develop innovative technologies to improve grinding and flotation performance for operations
- Provide on-site technical support during commissioning or operation support including flotation plant survey. Travel to operating sites is sometime required.
- Coordinate between Barrick and external consultants or external engineering firms
- Write, review and edit technical documentation including memo, report, proposal and presentation
Qualifications:
- A Degree (Bachelor, Master or Ph.D) in mineral processing, metallurgical engineering or chemical engineering
- A minimum of 3-5 years flotation plant experience in gold, copper or base metals processing
- A minimum of 3-5 years laboratory bench and pilot plant experience
- Experience in using JK Flotation tool to conduct a plant survey. Experience in JKSimFloat and other flotation software.
- The ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally at all levels of the organization
- Well developed analytical and problem solving skills
- Excellent organizational, project management and communication (verbal and written) skills
- Ability to self-motivate and work independently
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Knowledge of hydrometallurgical test work (flow sheets, processes, and procedures)
- Knowledge of QA/QC programs, Computer literacy (MS Office, MS Project, etc)
