Lumwana Mining Company located in Zambia is wholly owned by Barrick Gold Corporation and operates one of the largest new copper mines to be developed globally over the last decade. As a qualified security professional, the Products and Projects Security Coordinator will work within the Barrick Lumwana Site as well as with outside / offsite Service Providers, providing support to the site security program, focusing on product protection, product and asset loss prevention, project management and other activities as directed by the Lumwana Security Manager / Product and Project Security Superintendent.
The position is based on the Lumwana Copper Mine although there will be some travel within Zambia. There is a requirement to work closely with other functional areas both within and external to the Security Group.
Some of the responsibility is the following duties and activities:
- Ensure positive and effective implementation of Barrick Security policies and procedures.
- Establish, implement and ensure effective utilization of Security systems.
- Ensure positive and effective implementation of Barrick’s OH&S policy and procedures, and overarching statutory requirements.
- Oversee compliance programs for supply agreements with both Zambian and International suppliers of sundry services to the mine site and liaise with the supply department to ensure efficient services are maintained.
- Manage and enforce set standards for all personnel, employees and business partners working on the mine lease.
- Provide leadership and support to ensure that employees and business partners are able to comply with industry best practice and legislative requirements.
- Implement a Security Loss prevention capacity that will ensure prevention of material loss to the Company, specifically in regard to fuel, lubricants and consumables used on the mine site.
- Develop and implement safety management system compatible with requirements of OHSAS 18001Prepare safety statistics on a monthly basis, analyses and report trends
- Investigate incidents to discover root cause and corrective action developed and implemented promptly
- Review and assess Risk Management practices
- Demonstrate empathetic leadership qualities and provide sound direction to work teams to achieve desired outcomes
The successful applicant must have the following qualifications/skills:
· Undergraduate degree and a minimum of 8 years practical experience in the security, law enforcement, military or mining industries, or;
· A tertiary Diploma in a security or mining related field and a minimum of 10 years practical experience in the security, law enforcement or mining, or;
· 15 years’ experience as a Security professional with a bias for experience in a mining environment
· Team player
· Confident dealing with all levels of management
· Outstanding communication skills – oral, written, and presentation
· Strong writing skills Experience of project management will be an advantage.
· Experience in Metallurgical Processing Plants and product protection will be an advantage.
