Through this innovative 2-year mobile learning project, the London Knowledge Lab, Institute of Education, University of London (IoE - http://www.lkl.ac.uk) and the African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF – http://www.amref.org) aim to advance the training and supervision of community health workers (CHWs) in Kenya. The project will work closely with CHWs and their supervisors to collaboratively design, develop implement and evaluate a mobile learning intervention that better connects CHWs and supervisors. The innovative nature of this intervention will mean that for the first time CHWs will have a mobile portfolio of their practice, easily accessible reference material on their phone and the ability to share practice related questions and resources with their colleagues through activities which promote peer learning and reflection and that supervisors will be better informed of CHWs' training needs.
You will participate in and contribute to all elements of the project, collaborating closely with the project directors at the IoE and AMREF. You will conduct fieldwork, organise and run the participatory action research groups with communities in the Kibera informal settlement and Makueni County, Kenya. You will conduct literature reviews and lead on the qualitative analysis of the data.
You will have experience of conducting sustained qualitative fieldwork with marginalised communities and excellent interpersonal skills and organisational skills, including the ability to collaborate with others including a range of participants from different backgrounds, establish rapport, communicate effectively and negotiate sensitive fieldwork situations.
