The Director of the Cross Sector Engagement Unit will lead agency-level engagement with corporation, foundation, government, and university partners around the world in combined efforts to support CRS’ work to help the poor improve their lives. This will include the spectrum of engagement including philanthropy, social investment, value creation, and shared value starting from donations (philanthropy) to joint programs (shared value) and to include dialogue as well. The director will lead efforts to build strategic relationships, to foster innovative solutions to development challenges, and to enhance the impact of CRS programming. In the context of CSE relationships, s/he will help leverage resources from corporations, universities, private foundations and governments and positively influence corporate behavior and business practices.
Key Responsibilities: 1. Vision: Chart a future course for the CSE work of CRS in collaboration with CRS field programs, regional offices, and headquarters staff including Overseas Operations, US Operations, and Charitable Giving. The vision for CSE should capitalize on CRS’ competitive advantages. 2. Leadership: Provide effective leadership in developing an agency level approach to CSE incorporating and building on existing relationships at both the field program and headquarters levels. Help develop a new array of global relationships with corporations, foundations, universities and governments around cross-sector opportunities. Be aware of, and help manage, associational and reputational risk that may arise from new relationships. 3. Capacity Building: Support CRS field program efforts to build on their capacity for CSE work as well as that of CRS local partners. Identify the most important CSE skills and develop training resources to promote those skills within CRS and among partners. The director will have a key role in understanding field demands and needs and responding to them as the field identifies new opportunities and relationships. 4. Communication and Networking: Effectively communicate the objectives of CRS’ CSE work externally and internally. Network with a wide array of existing and potential CSE partners (e.g. corporations and foundations) around the world. Establish solid external contacts in priority sectors (e.g. ag-enterprise) and organizations for CRS CSE. Network and communicate with CRS regional offices, field programs, OSD, EOPs and PQSD as well as Charitable Giving, GKIM and US Operations to help develop new cross-sector opportunities. 5. Management: Manage a team of 5 (or more) staff members insuring all staff are coordinated in support of field program initiatives, linked in with all stakeholders, and focused on achieving the CSE unit objectives. Insure all solid CSE leads (e.g. new corporations potentially interested in working with CRS) are followed up on expeditiously by CRS staff. 6. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning: Establish system to track progress toward CSE objectives. Insure database is maintained on CSE programming worldwide. Regularly report to CRS leadership on progress. Produce annual analysis of state of CSE in CRS. Regularly promote and share evaluations and lessons learned.
Key Working Relationships: Internal: EVP Overseas Operations, Regional Directors, Country Representatives, Deputy Regional Directors PQ and MQ, USOPs, Charitable Giving, GKIM, OSD and PQSD staff. External: CSE-related staff in corporations, universities, foundations and governments. CSE staff in other PVOS.

Skills: 1. Proven leader with excellent supervisory skills and ability to successfully manage in a team-oriented environment. 2. Knowledge of corporate, university, government, and foundation relationship building. 3. Oral, written and interpersonal skills particularly public speaking and persuasive writing. 4. Entrepreneurial spirit and strong capacity for independent action and initiative. 5. Ability to influence and facilitate change without being in a position of line authority.
Qualifications: 1. Bachelors degree in relevant field, Masters and/or CFRE a plus. 2. 10 years of relevant experience, including experience in corporate and foundation fundraising, building relationships with universities, and international relief and development. 3. Understanding of Catholic Church and how CSE would be shaped by CRS’ faith perspective 4. Overseas work experience preferred. 5. 5+ years supervisory experience 6. Experience in negotiation 7. Ability to develop tracking systems to insure progress of unit objectives 8. Ability to travel domestically and overseas: estimated 25%. 9. French and/or Spanish a plus.
