Long Term Planning Section Leader at Bulyanhulu Gold Mine

LONG TERM PLANNING SECTION LEADER 

African Barrick Gold’s Bulyanhulu Gold Mine in Tanzania seeks to employ an experienced Long Term Planning Section Leader. This role reports to the Technical Services Manager and the role holder is accountable to provide long term five year and Life of Mine (LOM) Production and Development plans, professional technical support, and coordinate activities and communication between mine planning and internal and external affected parties. 

KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

• Provide professional technical support to ensure layouts and plans are delivered to mine management, the mining department and other service departments in a timely manner 
• Provide supervision & training to Mining Engineers and other support staff in the area to ensure compliance with the mine’s policies and procedures 
• Develop and implement medium to long-term plans ensuring budgeted targets are met and ensure these plans are delivered to the mining department in a timely manner 
• Calculate and present mid-year and annual ore reserves to standard as per legal requirements 
• Help develop training programs and train Tanzanian engineers to develop new skills and achieve their full potential 
• Act as a liaison between planning and operations departments coordinating engineering efforts, ensuring that short-term objectives are aligned with medium and long-term strategies to meet Company objectives 
• Identifying areas for Continuous Improvement initiatives 
• Provide advice and other duties and responsibilities as required by the Technical Services Manager 

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS 

Education Requirements: 

• Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or equivalent 

Experience Requirements: 

• Minimum of 8 years underground mining experience including at least 5 years experience in an underground production environment, preferably in precious metals using narrow vein long hole and/or drift and fill stoping 
• Experienced in calculating Cut Off Grades and Ore Reserve Estimation and preparation of Ore Reserve Statements compliant with NI-43.101/JORC/SAMREC/Toronto Stock Exchange (TSE) 
• Experience in underground mine design optimization for narrow vein longhole stoping, cut &fill and narrow vein mechanized mining methods 
• Experience with paste backfill systems and in mine ventilation would be advantageous 
• Experience with Short term planning, Ventilation and Geotech 
• Ability to execute project work, evaluate options and to write reports 
• Exposure in the development of Life of Mine strategies utilizing underground 3D mine design and scheduling software packages (preferable 5D Planner and EPS) 
• Proven exposure to underground mechanized mines that operate Longhole drilling overhand (bottom-up) and underhand (top-down), narrow vein mining and mechanized waste development 
• Proved proficiency with Mine 2-4D planning software, EPS scheduling software or equivalent mine planning and scheduling software 
• Operate computer communications and dispatching system 
• Highly proficient in MS Office Suite

• Ability to work at remote locations
