DIVISION & PROJECT OVERVIEW:
The International Development Group (IDG) is one of three international program divisions at URC-CHS and manages health field programs funded by USAID and CDC primarily in Africa and the Latin America region with key focus areas on improving health systems performance, including management support systems, and quality of care in maternal and child health, family planning, HIV/AIDS, TB and nutrition.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director will work closely with and support the Senior Vice President (SVP) for the International Development Group to ensure sustained growth for IDG and support technical leadership and management excellence at the country level. The Director will be part of the senior management team in IDG, will lead major business development efforts and provide technical leadership in several cross-cutting program areas. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
• Lead and contribute to business development initiatives using technical and management knowledge of field programs and clients.
• Supervise and mentor several senior and mid-level staff at HQ who are working on specific technical areas.
• Leverage organizational learning/knowledge management for improved reflection, adoption of lessons learned and sharing of results with the headquarters (HQ) office and other field programs.
• Contribute to overall URC strategic and management goals, including strengthening capacity of field offices. Support the Senior Vice President to define and implement key strategies across the IDG portfolio to support URC’s vision for improved leadership and management excellence in field programs.
• Provide technical backstopping and assistance as needed to support and strengthen overseas programs, including but not limited to quality improvement capacities, community mobilization and BCC, monitoring and evaluation, nutrition, maternal/child health and HIV/AIDS.
• Contribute to knowledge management related to IDG’s global implementation research program to ensure that research findings are applied to on-going programs.
• Provide leadership and direction for program management for bilateral programs.
• With the Senior Vice President, develop and identify specific, innovative strategies to improve donor liaison and coordination at global, regional, and national levels.
• Provide critical coordination and liaison with URC clients, e.g., USAID & CDC.
• Contribute to ongoing improvement of quality management processes for field and HQ.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Experience & Qualifications:
• Masters Degree in Public Health, International Development, or related field
• Technical experience and knowledge of USAID’s HPN programs, CDC, Global Fund, and new priority intervention areas
• Experience in development program management (financial, administrative and human resources) and technical/strategic oversight
• Demonstrated familiarity with the implementation of field programs from having lived and worked overseas in a developing country on a long-term assignment
• Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and supervise others and motivate through concern of performing quality work for URC and its clients.
