Agriculture Value Chain Development Analyst / Program Coordinator (full-time)
SPARK is looking for a capable, motivated Agri Value Chain Development Analyst / Program Coordinator to help support its Agri Business Creation Program (ABC Program) in South Sudan, Yemen, Burundi and Rwanda. ABC Program interventions will have a clear focus on agricultural value chain development and on job creation for youth by stimulating production & processing both in rural and urban centers creating value added products for consumption. The program identifies agri value chain gaps, skill shortages, needs of the private sector and supplier or distribution bottle-necks through market - and value chain analysis. The Agri Business Creation programme contributes to structural poverty reduction in four post-conflict states and combines a value chain development approach with pro-poor employment creation, in a conflict-sensitive way. The programme’s interventions are to:
• Support sustainable agricultural job creation through promotion of income generating activities and agricultural enterprise development; • Focus on marginalised groups, especially youth, and demobilised combatants, women and refugees/IDPs in conflict affected regions; as well as local and national authorities, higher educational and TVET institutes, and private sector organizations, all of which will be engaged to develop an inclusive and integrated policy for economic development; • Strengthen government legitimacy through multi-stakeholder approaches; • Increase food security; and, • Increase engagement in stabilising activities, as beneficiary participation in economic activities reinforces the upward cycle of reconstruction and stability.
The Agri VCD Analyst / Program Coordinator combines excellent analytical skills and expertise on agri value chain development with a practice-oriented and conflict sensitive perspective.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities:
• To develop a conflict sensitive agricultural value chain analysis approach and tool; • To apply the VCA approach and tool in the target countries, resulting in a number of concrete gaps in and opportunities for agri business development as well as a fitting intervention strategy to address these gaps and opportunities; • Strengthen the capacity of partner organizations: To train, advise and coach local partner organizations in designing and implementing agri-business development and other relevant activities. • More info in the terms of reference available at www.spark-online.org
Requirements & Skills:
• Relevant MA/MSc degree; • At least 5 years of relevant sectoral (Agri-value chains) and technical (business development) expertise; • Experienced with working in conflict affected environments and conflict analysis (work experience in especially South Sudan or Yemen, and to a lesser extent Rwanda and Burundi is a strong asset) ; • Good research, analytical and reporting skills; • Ability to translate analytical results into practically oriented tools and interventions; • Solid English language skills (essential) as well as good communication & social skills and the ability to work in a multicultural setting (French and/ or Arabic proficiency is a strong asset).
