Reporting
. The Executive Director will report directly to the CEO;
. The Executive Director is a key member of the Akilah Executive Team;*
. A weekly report will be submitted by COB each Friday;
. During the transition period, the Executive Director should liaise often with
outgoing Executive Director
Strategic Development & Management
· Work closely with the Akilah CEO to provide leadership and vision in the
development/implementation of all Akilah Programs: academic, leadership, mentorship, internship and campus enterprises.
· Lead and inspire Akilah staff by defining organizational values; promoting
collaborative work environment, clearly communicating expectations to staff,
recognizing staff and students as merited; inspire and motivate staff, community partners and board members.
· Manage and oversee Akilah staff and interns to ensure institutional goals and
objectives are being carried out effectively via each member of the team;
. Attract, recruit and retain a diverse team of talented, culturally-competent staff to provide high quality services to young women aged 18-33.
. Provide mentorship, supervision, leadership and professional development
opportunities to all staff and faculty.
. Oversee all business operations in a way that realizes the organizational mission, ensures excellence and encourages innovation.
Social Enterprises
· Collaboratively lead the activity and strategy design and oversee the activities of the social enterprise managers (currently 3 full-time staff). Help managers develop business plans, sustainability strategies, and markets for all enterprises. This includes oversight of the Farm in Bugesera District.
Finances
· Oversee management of: (1) the budget; (2) financial transactions; and (3) ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements;
. Manage the effective development and implementation of the following key
financial aspects (delegate appropriate responsibilities to Akilah operations staff):
o Tuition Policy, Processes & Payments
o Annual, Quarterly & Monthly Budget/ing
o Cash Flow (includes petty) & Bank Account Oversight
o Communications & Audit Process w/ US Office and Chief Operations
Officer (based in USA)
Operations
. Assess internal operational systems, such as administrative and management
systems, staffing structure, HR policies, facilities management, and application of technology and resources;
. Develop new, innovative and necessary business practices to build organizational capabilities and capacity to ensure excellence, improve efficiency and effectiveness, and support current and future needs;
. As needed, work with the global Executive Team* to develop new systems to
support growth;
. Capture best practices over time to develop policies, templates, rubrics and checklists, such as those intended to effectively and smoothly orient new staff and help retired staff transition out of the organization in accordance with policy.
Academic Quality
· Manage and support the Academic Director to create an academically rigorous
program that enables Akilah to effectively fulfill its mission of training young Rwandan women to become leaders and entrepreneurs in the private sector;
Student Issues/Admissions
• Manage Student Life Associate (as applicable), Counselor and Admissions
Department;
• Enforce Akilah Community Pledge & play lead role in promoting organizational
and community values to student body;
• Enforce the Student Handbook; manage and resolve student issues, especially behavior/discipline;
• Proactively develop M&E strategy to measure impact of the Akilah experience on students in full collaboration with the Academic Director and CEO;
• Communicate regularly with Akilah students via the Student-Staff Forum to
ensure a dependable & transparent platform for student concerns and feedback.
Resource Mobilization/External Relations
· Liaise with local community members and strategic partners, as well as with
international partners; represent Akilah at conferences and events;
· Develop and maintain relationships with both local and international stakeholders, donors and private sector leaders;
· Host visiting donors and stakeholders at Akilah;
· Recruit and support local Advisory Council members in alignment with new
Diploma programs/tracks.
Communications and Outreach
· Work with Director of Admissions, and Marketing staff to develop strategy to
demonstrate Akilah’s impact and results to donors and supporters in Rwanda;
· Oversee and ensure quality control/assurance for all publicly-intended materials.
Facilities & Equipment Management
Oversee and ensure that Akilah operations staff manages the following:
. Grounds Maintenance (grass/shrubs, cleanliness of premises, etc.)
. Computer Lab oversight & rule enforcement
. Office procurement; Approve payments for local/regular vendors, contractors
. Equipment & Inventory oversight & management
. Security Guard oversight
. Keys Control & Management
