BBC Africa is a multi-platform department, providing news and information to audiences across Africa and beyond on TV, radio, online and mobile, seven days per week.
We are one of the flagship language services of the BBC World Service and our hugely successful multiplatform website - bbcswahili.com - offers video, interactive and audio content. We also broadcast to around 20 million listeners in Eastern and Central Africa and have three daily live radio shows broadcast Nairobi and Dar es Salaam and a daily award-winning television programme, Dira ya Dunia TV from London with comprehensive coverage of the regional and global agenda.
Role Responsibility
We are seeking two senior multimedia journalists to fill the positions of Duty Editor and Dira ya Dunia editor, to ensure our coverage of Africa and rest of the world in Kiswahili and English is distinctive and has the highest editorial and production standards. You will support managing our journalistic team and liaise with Reporters across Africa, specialising in Africa, Africa related issues and international issues. As a senior member of the team, you will be planning and promoting new working practices in the Service to meet the needs of a fast-changing media market.
The Ideal Candidate
We need your outstanding track record as a multimedia journalist together with demonstrable experience of initiating dynamic output ideas and in editing the work of others. You will have a wide and up to date understanding of broadcasting, mobile and online markets in East Africa and the way they are changing and a clear insight into the needs of our audiences. A thorough knowledge of news and current affairs in Africa, in particular East Africa and the Great Lakes region is essential, as is a good knowledge of international, diaspora and British current affairs. First class written and spoken Kiswahili & English is also required for this role.
