The Statistics Division develops, and advocates for the implementation of methodologies and standards for data collection, validation, processing and analysis of food and agriculture statistics. In these statistical domains, it also plays a vital role in the compilation, processing and dissemination of internationally comparable data, and provides essential capacity building support to member countries. In addition, the Division disseminates many publications, working papers and statistical yearbooks, that cover agricultural and food security relevant statistics (including prices, production, trade and agri-environmental statistical data).
The Social Statistics Team is responsible for developing and compiling a harmonized suite of indicators on rural development and livelihood, social protection, decent employment and gender inequalities; for processing available microdata from household surveys; and for providing capacity development and support to member countries in the analysis of household surveys. The Social Statistics Team also plays an essential role in the development of a dataset on disasters and losses in agriculture and in the compilation of resilience indicators.

The Statistics Officer reports to the Team Leader of the Social Statistics Team.
Technical Focus
Implementation and consolidation of the methodology for the estimation of social statistics, with special reference to the indicators of decent rural employment and social protection in agriculture and rural areas.
Key Results
Research and analysis of information, data and statistics, and the maintenance and updating of related tools, methodologies, and/or databases to support the delivery of programme products, projects, publications, and services
Key Functions
· Researches and analyzes agricultural, economic, trade, market, social, environmental, nutrition/food composition and/or gender related] data, statistics and information to provide technical, statistical and/or policy related information and analysis to support the delivery of economic and social development programmes work, products, projects, publications and services.
· Produces a variety of technical reports and input for technical documents, Departmental publications and/or web pages.
· Provides technical, statistical, and/or analytical services on various studies, projects, and/or assessments and provides technical backstopping to field projects.
· Participates in the development of improved/updated technical, statistical and/or analytical tools, methodologies, systems, databases, and/or key social/ economic/ environmental/ nutritional and/or early warning indicators, etc.
· Participates on multi-disciplinary teams, collaborates with other departments and agencies on work groups and committees and promotes best practices.
· Collaborates in capacity development activities involving the planning and organizing of training workshops, seminars, and major meetings and the preparation of related information, materials, on-line tools and information kits.
· Promotes knowledge sharing and best practices at international meetings and conferences and influences partners in stakeholder consultations.
· Participates in resource mobilization activities.
Specific Functions
· Ensures the development and timely updates of methods, standards, tools, norms and classifications used in the production of decent rural employment and social protection statistics;
· Contributes to develop and compile a harmonized suite of indicators on rural development and livelihood, social protection, decent employment and gender inequalities;
· Contributes to processing available microdata from household surveys;
· Contributes to the design, testing and application of capacity development initiatives in the area of decent rural employment and social protection statistics;
· Contributes to the design and deployment of technical assistance in support to countries for the establishment of food security and nutrition information systems at country level, that are consistent with FAO and other international statistical standards.

Minimum Requirements
· Advanced University degree in statistics, sociology, economics or a related field.
· Five years relevant experience in compiling socio-economic statistics in national and/or in international organizations
· Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two or Arabic, Chinese, Russian.

· Extent and relevance of knowledge and experience in the field of decent rural employment and social protection analysis
· Extent and relevance of experience in designing, planning and managing statistical capacity development activities in assigned areas of responsibility.
· Demonstrated experience in drafting technical reports/documents in English is an asset.
