The KPMG Fiscal & Government Affairs practice
- KPMG’s Economics team is a full-service economic consulting practice of approximately 70 economists. We have wide-ranging experience in all aspects of economic and regulatory analysis across a wide range of sectors.
- The UK team is part of wider global Economics and Regulation network and comprises a number of different practice areas, including Fiscal and Government Affairs.
- The Fiscal & Government Affairs practice is currently a team of 10-12 economists. We are looking to grow rapidly to meet client demand.
- We conduct economic analysis for a wide range of clients in both the private and public sectors including: economic modelling of the effects of taxes and regulations on businesses; economic impact studies; cost benefit analyses; and development economics.
- We work across a wide range of sectors including, but not restricted to: sporting organisations; telecoms; FMCGs; tobacco; gambling; financial services; national and local government; local enterprise partnerships.
- Our team’s expertise includes: econometrics; economic spreadsheet modelling; simulation analysis; microeconomic analysis of tax and regulations; economic impact studies; cost benefit analyses; communicating technical material in a clear and compelling way.
Requirement
We are looking to recruit a new Manager for the Fiscal & Government Affairs practice whose responsibilities will include:
- Managing teams of up to 5 economic consultants to deliver projects, including conducting spreadsheet and econometric analysis, preparing technical reports to a high standard with minimal oversight.
- Excellent technical skills, including economic spreadsheet analysis and econometric analysis. Experience working in packages including: STATA, R, and similar packages is highly desirable.
- Excellent written communication a must. Drafting technical reports to a high standard that can be understood by non-economists but that stand up to scrutiny by technical experts. Experience in infographics or other techniques to communicate technical findings in a compelling way would be an advantage.
- Effective communicator, with an ability to liaise with clients and non-economist colleagues in an engaging and persuasive manner.
- Fungible economics skills. It would be an advantage to have the ability to work with other parts of the wider Fiscal & Government Affairs practice e.g. economic appraisal, impact assessment and evaluation, economic impact studies.
Experience required
- Experience of conducting economic analysis relevant to the work done in the Fiscal & Government Affairs practice e.g. econometric analysis; economic analysis of excise taxation; economic simulation modelling; economic analysis of changes in regulations; etc.
- An established track record in running projects and small teams, being proactive in driving projects forward and delivering for clients.
Qualification and Skills
A 2:1 or First class undergraduate degree from a top rated university in a relevant economics discipline is a must. A good Masters’ degree in a relevant economics discipline an advantage.
Skills required
- Excellent economics knowledge is a must.
- Strong spreadsheet economic modelling.
- Ability to conduct and oversee econometric analysis (including expertise in packages such as STATA to run analysis and manage datasets).
- Ability to write economic analysis in a clear and compelling way for non-economists.
- Excellent ability to develop and maintain client relationships.
- A team player who will contribute to the wider Fiscal & Government Affairs practice.
