How to apply:
Term of contract: February 1 – April 15, 2016
Overview of the position:
The Pan African Lawyers Union (PALU) is seeking a Project Fellow to provide logistical support to its team in the implementation of a regional event entitled, The Role of Development Cooperation in the Prevention of Mass Atrocities and RtoP, which will be conducted in partnership with the International Coalition for the Responsibility to Protect (ICRtoP). The event, to be held in Nairobi, Kenya at the end of March, will convene a range of government and regional representatives, as well as civil society and academic actors from throughout East Africa on the topic of atrocities prevention and how development efforts support civilian protection from such crimes. The event is expected to have approximately 50 participants. The Project Fellow position is short term and will be for the duration of the project at a full-time basis. The Project Fellow will be based at PALU’s office in Arusha, Tanzania, and will be sponsored by PALU and the ICRtoP.
Responsibilities and candidate qualifications:
The Project Fellow will be responsible for the logistical oversight of the regional event. This will involve the coordination of logistics for participants and speakers of the upcoming event (hotels; flights; per diems; etc.); oversight of material needs for the conference (i.e. meeting supplies; venue selection); and the maintenance of financial records and relevant information for reporting and documentation purposes.
The ideal candidate will have had experience in arranging similarly sized conferences in the region before. He/she will have exceptional organizational skills, be comfortable multi-tasking, and will be successful at paying close attention to detail. The Project Fellow will be proficient in using Microsoft Office software, and must be comfortable with the constraints of deadlines. In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience engaging with high level officials and be able to conduct him/herself in a diplomatic manner.
It is important to note that this is a logistical and administrative position, not a programmatic role.
The Project Fellow will report directly to colleagues at PALU, as well as liaise with staff of the ICRtoP, headquartered in New York, via Skype and conference call. Such engagement may involve calls late in the day, which will require flexibility on the part of the Project Fellow.
Compensation: A stipend will be provided; however, please note that support will not be available for relocation expenses or health care coverage.
