CHAMPION Project (Channeling Men's Positive Involvement in a National HIV/AIDS Response) Project which seeks to increase positive male involvement in HIV and reproductive health, is funded by USAID and led by EngenderHealth. The project is implemented in ten regions throughout Tanzania, with the main office located in Dar es Salaam.
EngenderHealth is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill in the position of Program Intern, GBV for its CHAMPION Project based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This position is open to Tanzania nationals only.
Scope of Position:
The program intern will help coordinate and provide administrative support to CHAMPION's activities related to gender-based violence. Working in close collaboration with the GBV Program Officer and Senior Technical Advisor for Gender, Policy and Advocacy, the Program Intern will assist to ensure that CHAMPION's gender-based violence activities meet local needs, run smoothly, and coordinate well with gender-based violence activities of other partners. The Program Intern will also support the GBV Program Officer to conduct training on gender-based violence.
Specific Responsibilities:
As the individual supporting CHAMPION's activities on gender-based violence, the Program Intern will:
- Monitor and provide support to the work of CHAMPION's community structures in Iringa and partners in Mbeya, Mara and Dar es Salaam, to ensure the implementation of community engagement and mobilization on gender-based violence.
- Assist in development of concept notes, budgets and scopes of work for the activities of volunteers, consultants and subgrantees to implement gender-based violence activities.
- Organize logistics for GBV trainings in collaboration with the GBV Program Officer and partners in the field.
- Assist with translation of project documents to Swahili and
- Assist with planning and organizing dissemination of project outcomes, particularly related to GBV
- Follow up with community structures in the field regarding successes and challenges faced during implementation.
- Conduct literature searches related to gender, HIV/AIDS, reproductive health, and social and behavior change communication.
- Assist with developing and writing non-technical, technical and/or research papers that document the achievements of CHAMPION's gender-based violence work.
- Contribute to the documentation of best practices and success stories from CHAMPION's implementation experience.
- Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities::
- Experience working on gender or gender-based violence is preferred.
- Knowledge of issues related to gender based violence, women's empowerment, male involvement, gender alignment and the promotion of gender equality.
- Knowledge of laws and policies related to gender-based violence and familiarity of current programs responding to gender-based violence in Tanzania.
- A demonstrated commitment to positive social change as well as a personal and professional commitment to gender equity
- Familiarity with the health sector and local government structures in Tanzania.
- Strong analytic skills to assist in coordinating gender-based violence programs.
- Conceptual thinker, with excellent follow-through and organizational skills.
- Good facilitation skills
- Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and leadership skills.
- Excellent organizational skills, time management skills, and attention to detail.
- Experience on communications campaigns related to gender or social change a plus.
- Experience with donor funded programs (especially USAID) is a plus.
- Ability to travel up-country up to 40% of time.
- Experience in writing technical documents in English preferred.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- Masters candidates preferred.
- Experience in gender, reproductive health and/or HIV/STI-related projects
- A personal and professional commitment to gender equality and non-violence is required.
- Strong oral and written English and Kiswahili communication skills.
- Fluency in both languages preferred.
- Computer literate [especially Microsoft Word and Excel] with proficiency in data handling
