THE INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL WORK (ISW)

The Institute of Social Work is one of the institutions of higher learning in Tanzania which was established in 1974 by Act No. 26 of 1973 (as amended by Miscellaneous Act No. 13 of 2002). The Institute is under the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and is located at Kijitonyama in Dar-es-Salaam. The Institute was established to provide qualified human resources for strengthening social welfare services delivery system in Tanzania. It is accredited with the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) as an institute of higher learning to conduct training programmes in the fields of social work, industrial relations and human resources management.

20.1 ASSISTANT LECTURER – COMMUNICATION SKILLS – (2 POSTS)

20.1.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in lecturing and tutorial seminars,

Work in cooperation with senior member of staff on specific projects such as research and consultancy,

Supervise student’s projects,

Setting examinations, invigilating, marketing and timely production of examination results,

Prepares teaching materials for tutorials and exercises including case studies and

Conduct lecture with guide of senior lecturer.

20.1.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Master of Arts either in Education or Information Studies with background in Communication Skills for Arts and Social Science, Linguistic, English structure, morphology, General Phonetics, Intonation, Semantics and Pragmatic; with GPA of not below 3.5 in Bachelor of Arts with Education with background in Communication Skills for Arts and Social Science, Linguistic, English structure, Morphology, General Phonetics, Intonation, Semantics and Pragmatics from any recognized Institution.

Teaching and research experience will be an added advantage.

20.1.3 REMUNERATION

20.2 ASSISTANT LECTURER – RESEARCH – (1 POST) LABOUR STUDIES

20.2.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in lecturing and Tutorial seminars,

Work in cooperation with senior member of staff on specific projects such as research and consultancy,

Supervise student’s projects,

Setting examinations, invigilating, marketing and timely production of examination results,

Prepares teaching materials for tutorials and exercises including case studies and

Conduct lecture with guide of Senior Lecturer.

20.2.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Master’s Degree in Sociology or any related Social Science discipline with specialization in Social Science Research Methods, Quantitative Research and



Qualitative Research Methodologies; with at least GPA of 3.5 in Bachelor of Sociology or related Social Science discipline with specialization in Social Science Research Methodologies, knowledge of Industrial Relations, Social Protection and International Labour Standards will be an added advantage.

20.2.3 REMUNERATION

20.3 ASSISTANT LECTURERS – LAW - (2 POSTS)

20.3.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in lecturing and Tutorial seminars,

Work in cooperation with senior member of staff on specific projects such as research and consultancy,

Supervise student’s projects,

Setting examinations, invigilating, marketing and timely production of examination results.

Prepares teaching materials for tutorials and exercises including case studies and

Conduct lecture with guide of Senior Lecturer.

20.3.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Master’s Degree in Laws with GPA of not below 3.5 in Bachelor of Laws from any recognized institution.

OR

Master in Labour Studies/HRM/Sociology with specialization in Industrial Relations, Social Protection, Trade Unionism, Mediation, Social Dialogue and Industrial Psychology; With at least GPA of 3.5 in Bachelor of Industrial Relations/Labour Studies or Sociology with specialization in Industrial Relations, Social Protection, Trade Unionism, Mediation, Social Dialogue and Industrial Psychology

20.3.3 REMUNERATION

20.4 ASSISTANT LECTURERS – ICT - (2 POST)

20.4.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in lecturing and Tutorial seminars,

Supervise student’s projects.

Setting examinations, invigilating, marketing and timely production of examination results,

Prepares teaching materials for tutorials and exercises including case studies and

20.4.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Master’s Degree in ICT with at least GPA of 3.5 in Bachelor of ICT from any recognized institution.

20.5 ASSISTANT LECTURER – MATHEMATICS AND STATISTIC – (1 POST)

20.5.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in lecturing and Tutorial seminars,

Work in cooperation with senior member of staff on specific projects such as research and consultancy,

Supervise student’s projects,

Setting examinations, invigilating, marketing and timely production of examination results,

Prepares teaching materials for tutorials and exercises including case studies and

Conduct lecture with guide of Senior Lecturer.


20.5.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Master’s Degree in Statistic or Mathematics with GPA of not below 3.5 in Bachelor of Science (Mathematics) or with Education (Mathematics) in Arts (Statistics) from any recognized institution.

20.6 ASSISTANT LECTURER – ECONOMICS – (1 POST)

20.6.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

20.6.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Master’s Degree in Economics. Knowledge in Finance will be an added advantage with GPA of not below 3.5 in Bachelor of Economics from any recognized institution.

20.7 ASSISTANT LECTURER – PSYCHOLOGY – (1 POST)

20.7.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in lecturing and Tutorial seminars,

Work in cooperation with senior member of staff on specific projects such as research and consultancy,

Supervise student’s projects,

Setting examinations, invigilating, marketing and timely production of examination results,

Prepares teaching materials for tutorials and exercises including case studies and

Conduct lecture with guide of Senior Lecturer.

20.7.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Master’s Degree in Arts in Applied Psychology or with specialization in Early Childhood Development; or in Human Behavior and Social Environment. Knowledge of Psychotherapy or Developmental Psychology will be added advantage, with GPA of not below 3.5 in undergraduate degree with Applied Psychology or Education specialized in Educational Psychology from any recognized institution.


20.7.3 REMUNERATION

20.8 ASSISTANT LECTURER – RESEARCH (SOCIAL WORK) – (1 POST)

20.8.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in lecturing and Tutorial seminars.

Work in cooperation with senior member of staff on specific projects such as research and consultancy.

Supervise student’s projects.

Setting examinations, invigilating, marketing and timely production of examination results.

Prepares teaching materials for tutorials and exercises including case studies.

Conduct lecture with guide of Senior Lecturer.

20.8.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Master’s Degree either in Social Work, Public Health or related Social Science discipline. Knowledge of Social Work Research, Social Protection and Evidence Based Practice will be an added advantage with GPA of not below 3.5, in Bachelor of Social Work or any related Social Science degree with specialization in Social Science Research Methods, Quantitative and Qualitative Research Methodologies.

20.9 ASSISTANT LECTURERS – SOCIAL WORK – (2 POSTS)

20.9.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Master’s Degree in Social Work or International Social Welfare Services. Working with families, welfare agencies and community based projects will be added advantages. With GPA of not below 3.5, in Bachelor Degree in Social Work or Advanced Diploma in Social Work with specialization in Social Protection, Child Protection Welfare Services.
