The work in Africa covers a broad range of malaria control initiatives, and includes diagnosis, treatment, prevention, disease surveillance, operational research, monitoring and evaluation, behaviour change communications and strengthening delivery systems in the public and private sectors and community level. Work on neglected tropical diseases includes mapping and integrated mass drug administration, and child health work includes integrated community case management and development of better diagnosis. Malaria Consortium has Regional Offices in Africa and in Africa, which are each led by a team of a regional programmes director for management and a regional technical director for technical aspects.
The Africa Technical Director provides technical leadership of Malaria Consortium Africa and its strategic development and direction, including development and technical oversight of Africa-based projects, ensuring that the organisation achieves its objectives with the highest technical quality. To contribute at a senior level to global organisational and business development as a member of Malaria Consortium’s Africa Regional Management Team and Global Management Group. The successful candidate will have: • PhD level qualification in epidemiology or public health or a medical doctor with at least a relevant Master’s degree • Extensive experience providing technical support for public health in developing countries • Operational and implementation research experience • Extensive experience assessing and developing infectious disease surveillance, monitoring and evaluation systems, including design and implementation of surveys • Experience in managing projects and staff teams, including training and mentoring • Previous engagement in successful proposal development • Demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with international and local government and non-governmental organisation officials • Experience working in Africa • Ability to innovate and design effective health programmes • Strong analytical skills in monitoring, evaluation • Familiar with quantitative and qualitative research methods • Excellent planning and organising skills • Excellent communication and presentation skills (including both written and spoken English) • Excellent report and manuscript writing skills • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to foster a positive team spirit
