The role
We are currently seeking a Senior Transmission Lines Engineer to work closely with our other specialists to join the team within its Africa Division.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carryout route planning and selection, foundation and design of supporting structures for cables and draws sketch showing their location
- Produce structural design or foundation design for transmission line installations
- Use PLS-CADD to perform design of high voltage transmission lines, including both electrical and physical aspects of above ground and underground installations
- Oversee construction, testing, commissioning, and start-up of completed projects
- Coordinate aerial, topographical, and other surveys required to obtain pertinent data for planning lines
- Produce engineering documents, construction specification and construction procedures for electrical transmission lines projects
- Produce detailed specifications for major line equipment and hardware as well as functional specifications for the overall systems
- Carryout detailed engineering calculations to draw up construction specifications, such as cable sag, pole strength, and necessary grounding
- Prepare Tender Documentation for substation projects, including all technical schedules
- Manage the tendering process including tender supervision and tender evaluation
- Prepare any other assigned reports, studies or analysis for project
- Construction supervision and monitoring to include the preparation of all relevant reports

With a track record of achievement in a similar role, you will have gained your experience in an engineering design consultancy and have a passion for building trusted relationships to drive positive change and win new work.
Suitable applicants will have/be:
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil or Electrical Engineering; a masters in any of these fields will be an added advantage
- A minimum 10 years experience in a related field at least 3 years of which must include high voltage transmission line design engineering
- Experience in using PLS-CADD, TL-CADD, PLS Pole, Tower, Sag 10, Caisson and other related design programs for high voltage design, along with foundation or tower structural design and tower spotting experience will be an added advantage
- Thorough working knowledge and understanding of hig voltange transmission line facilities, components and their functions
- Knowledge of design documents and drawings necessary to complete a project
Knowledge of engineering standards relevant for lines equipment including IEC, IEEE and ANSI
