Reporting to the Project Executive, the appointee will be based in Johannesburg and be responsible for sections of major expansion projects initially at the iron ore and manganese ore operations of Assmang Limited in the Northern Cape. This position has significant career path growth potential in the continual stream of new projects within all Divisions of ARM.
Project Manager
Requirements: * Minimum 10 years' experience in a full project lifecycle management environment, preferably in South Africa * B Electrical/Mechanical/Chemical/Processing/Mining Engineering/Diploma in Engineering (NQF level 6) or equivalent * Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) * Project Management qualification
* Preferably completed an Executive Education Programme * Registration as a Professional Engineer will serve as an added advantage * Analytical and conceptual abilities * Sharp business acumen * Strategic thinker with excellent planning and implementation skills * Output-orientated * Good leadership qualities with a strong presence * Problem solver * High emotional intelligence * Tenacious and able to work in a remote environment.
Key performance areas will include, but are not limited to: * Constructing and commissioning a greenfield/brownfield expansion of the Assmang operations and ancillary infrastructure * Ensuring compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act and Regulations, EMPR, WULA and all other statutory requirements in the design and implementation of equipment and systems * Identifying, controlling and optimising the allocation of human and physical resources in respect of engineering and construction activities across the project * Ensuring that the requisite HAZOP studies are conducted during project implementation * Representing the company in dealings with contractors and other stakeholders and legislators * Identifying contract variations, negotiating variations or additional work within the overall scope * Providing monthly and quarterly feedback to the relevant Steering Committees as to compliance/variation to the project progress against plan * Providing strategic, expert advice and consultation on the design and implementation of effective administrative and business processes for the project, to include redesign and/or re-engineering as required * Organising the client project team into appropriate work groups and working closely with contractors, subcontractors, operations and senior management to support and guide the entire project team in their effort to achieve key milestone deliverables * Establishing and implementing the necessary Project Control Systems * Being responsible for Scope/Change Management plans * Supervising the Assmang project commissioning and transfer of the necessary expertise into the Assmang Operational Teams, by providing training concepts and interventions * Motivating and leading various EPCM teams, both at their company's head office as well as on site.
