The role
We are currently seeking a Senior Communication & Control Engineer to work closely with our other specialists to join the team within its Africa Division.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and design advanced communication and control systems for industrial and utility applications
- Determine system requirements overall communication and control system requirements on projects
- Designing and developing control/communication system topology and producing detailed drawings
- Producing equipment specification and writing construction & commissioning specifications for site work
- Design of PC –based or RTU-based substation or power system control systems including software configuration and design and implementation of substation power system HMI PCs
- Development of communications infrastructure, perform feasibility studies and prepare implementation plans for all electronic system works
- Protection and control design, SCADA and, schematics and wiring diagrams etc
- Power network communications design to include communications design (OPGW & PLC systems), teleportation design concept and detailed designs for plant level communication systems and their interface to Control Centres
- Prepare any other assigned reports, studies or analysis for project
With a track record of achievement in a similar role, you will have gained your experience in an engineering design consultancy and have a passion for building trusted relationships to drive positive change and win new work.
Suitable applicants will have/be:
- A Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or College, with a power background preferred; a Masters degree will be an added advantage
- A minimum 10 years related experience and/or proven knowledge in power engineering and design, 5 years of which must include communication and control design in utility or industrial design/operating environments
- Experience with various common utility and industrial communications protocols including such as DNP3/Modbus/IEC 60870-5-101/103/104/IEC 61850, ICCP, IRIG-B, AB Data Highway +
- Familiarity with utility and industrial communication design concepts including such as Ethernet, EIA-232, EIA-485, single-mode and multimode fiber optics, and wireless implementation
- PLC logic/control and system design and programming experience
- Proficiency with various manufacturer's RTU hardware/software platforms
- Familiarity with TCP\IP, FTP, and serial communications is required
- Proficiency with various manufacturer's protective relay hardware and software platforms
- Ability to interpret electrical AC & DC schematics
- Ability to write clear and concise specifications and reports is a necessary part of the job
- Excellent verbal and written communication skill
