Position title: Translator/Interpreter
Position Grade: P4
Duty Station: Djibouti
Organizational Unit: Administration & Finance Division
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the overall guidance of the Program Manager Information Documentation the translator /Interpreter shall be responsible for the translation, interpretation and typing of documents for the secretariat. She/he shall:
1. Translate documents from English to French and vise-versa.
2. Ensure that the translated documents have been properly typed.
3. Check original texts confer with authors to ensure that translations retain the content, meaning, and feeling of the original subject matter in document
4. Proofread, edit, and revise translated documents including validation of outsourced translations;
5. Receive and submit assignments electronically
6. Interpret discussions during conferences, workshops and meetings of the Secretariat.
7. Facilitate the work of hired interpreters during Policy Organ meetings and workshops
8. Accompany visitors and facilitate communication between receiving party and visitors.
9. Participate in the preparation of periodicals journals and magazines for the Secretariat.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Candidates must have, Bachelor's degree in English, French or Linguistics and at least a post graduate Diploma in Translation and Interpretation from a recognized institution;
• At least 10 years of experience in the relevant field,
• Computer literacy is essential;
Language requirements: Fluency in both working languages (English/French) is required.
Tenure of Appointment: The appointment is for five (5) years renewable subject to satisfactory performance
REMUNERATION:
US $ 33,750 per annum plus other benefits
