HR Business Partner
Context/Scope:
Serengeti Breweries Ltd (SBL) operates exclusively in Tanzania and is the 2nd largest beer company with a market share of 25%.  SBL is a subsidiary of East Africa Breweries Ltd (EABL) – which is in turn partly owned by one of the world’s biggest alcoholic beverage companies, Diageo. The company is an integrated demand/supply business with 3 operational breweries in Dar Es Salaam, Mwanza, and a third one in Moshi, which is situated in the northern part of the country near the Kenyan border. SBL’s flagship brand is Premium Serengeti lager, which accounts for 50% of SBL sales volumes. The other beer brands are Tusker, Guinness, Tusker Malt, Kick and Pilsner.
SBL has 3 fully operational breweries in Dar es Salaam, Mwanza and Moshi with a combined capacity of 1.3m Hls. Moshi has a capacity of c600khls per annum and a scope to expand to more than 1 million in F14.
Purpose of Role:
The Business Partner will lead and manage the end to end People/HR agenda within a business area to ensure the business objectives are achieved through the utilisation and deployment of the programmes, tools, policies & frameworks developed in the Global Centres of Expertise and the monitoring (through agreed SLAs) and supporting HR services delivered via the HR Service Delivery team.
Top 3-5 Accountabilities
1. Resourcing

  • Own and manage the manpower resources for the business area including planning on an annualised basis for optimised headcount management (e.g. approve open vacancies for Line Managers). 
  • Internal resourcing – review succession plans & talent pools to check for internal candidates. Work with HR colleagues in Africa and globally to source and activate global candidates for roles. 
2. Talent and Learning & Development

  • Works with the business area to identify and build talent
  • Embeds core programmes (DLPP, PMD, BPC, CF) and facilitates. Embeds program principles within the market/function. Understands and monitors costs in line with budgets set for training for the business area.
  • Coaches line managers and employees helping them to be more effective in line with any related core programs
3. Organisation Effectiveness

  • Lead organisational change initiatives for the business area working with the HRD and linking into the Global team when necessary
  • Understands where ownership lies between a business change and a functional change and managing this in conjunction with the HR Director, Global Functional Talent Director and advising where local level implementation issues need to be managed. 
4. Employee Relations

  • Oversees (and conducts where appropriate in conjunction with the line manager) in market interviews and investigations on ER issues, complaints, and grievances, connecting with Service Delivery to ensure proper case management and record keeping.
5. HR Operating Model

  • Is the role model for utilisation of the HR Model and directs HR queries to the appropriate channels
  • Review of programmes and services being provided by Service Delivery & Global using SLA data where available to ensure desired business outcomes
    Qualifications and Experience Required:
Degree in a relevant field
Strong functional HR or people management experience
Experience of change management or good understanding of the change mechanisms and ability to work effectively cross-functionally
Proven ability to influence, persuade, facilitate and build credibility at all levels within the business
Broad awareness, understanding and empathy with the talent, reward and organisation effectiveness agenda
Excellent coaching and relationship building skills with a track record as a valued coach
