The role
We are currently seeking a Senior Substation Engineer to work closely with our other specialists in to join the team within its Africa Division.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out site selections and site investigations for substation sites
- Carry out detailed design analysis, to include calculations, research, selection, layout, etc., necessary to develop required design documents
- Electrical engineering design for high voltage substation projects to include selection of major equipment, equipment layouts, general arrangements and single line drawings
- Detailed Engineering, physical design, & coordination of substation projects to include primary electrical plant designs, and all primary plant details
- Apply engineering application software to complete engineering tasks such as:
- ground grid/earthing design
- relay coordination studies
- transformer sizing
- load flow and short circuit studies
- Auxiliary electrical plant designs for substations to include all AC/DC and auxiliary plant
- Producing design documents and drawings for substation projects, including wiring diagrams and schematics and bills of materials
- Produce detailed specifications for all major substation equipment as well as functional specifications for the overall systems
- Prepare Tender Documentation for substation projects, including all technical schedules
- Manage the tendering process including tender supervision and tender evaluation
- Prepare assigned reports, studies or analysis for project
- Construction supervision and monitoring to include the preparation of all relevant reports
- Prepare any other assigned reports, studies or analysis for project
With a track record of achievement in a similar role, you will have gained your experience in an engineering design consultancy and have a passion for building trusted relationships to drive positive change and win new work.
Suitable applicants will have/be:
- A Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or College, with a power background preferred; a Masters degree will be an added advantage
- A minimum 10 years of related experience and/or proven knowledge in power engineering and design, 5 years of which must include substation design
- Thorough working knowledge and understanding of electrical substation facilities, substation components and their functions
- Strong knowledge of AC/DC fundamentals, three phase power systems, and per-unit mathematics and symmetrical components
- Knowledge of design documents and drawings necessary to complete a project
- Knowledge of engineering standards relevant for substation equipment including IEC, IEEE and ANSI
