FINCA Uganda Limited (MDI) is the very first licensed micro finance deposit taking institution in Uganda, and part of a global network which serves over 850,000 clients in 21 countries. FINCA Uganda currently offers loans, savings and money transfer services in Uganda, one of the most competitive and dynamic microfinance markets in the world. FINCA Uganda is seeking to recruit dynamic, self motivated, result oriented professionals to fill the positions below.
3. In-House Legal Counsel (Re-advertised)
The In-House legal Counsel is a member of the legal department based at Head office Kampala. S/he will represent and counsel FINCA Uganda in all matters, which concerns official work and related activities of FINCA Uganda. The position reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

Key Result Areas:
• Advise FINCA Uganda on legal issues affecting its operations in the performance of its objectives.
• Network with the Administrative officer to ensure that all the necessary legal procedures for insurance policies and processing of claims, agreements, and payment of rents are followed and adhered to.
• Carry out searches, registrations of documents and deeds and filings as may be required at various government departments and agencies, local authorities or other relevant bodies.
• To carry out legal research as shall be required from time to time
• Work with Branch/ Regional Managers to ensure repayment from delinquent clients/ problem clients. Where necessary the legal counsel will file suit against delinquent clients OR give advice to the group members on how to file a suit themselves.
• Preparation of Loan and Credit Documentation, various Agreements and Security instruments.
• Provide legal advice on diverse matters from employment, taxation, and commercial contracts to litigation.
• Represent FINCA Uganda in courts of law and other Judicial, quasi-judicial or Administrative bodies in respect of proceedings to which FINCA Uganda is a party or may be interested.
• To assist in the delivery of company secretarial services to FINCA Uganda as may be assigned from time to time by the Company Secretary and/or Managing Director or the Board of Directors.
• To liaise and supervise any external consultants whether legal or otherwise that FINCA Uganda shall engage to perform some of its special assignments

Job requirement

Ideal profile:
• Master of Laws (MLL),Bachelor or Law Degree (LLB) from a recognized University and a post graduate Diploma in legal practice from the Law Development Centre- Kampala
• Knowledge of the legal system and laws of the republic of Uganda and keeping up-to-date with the changes therein affecting the company.
• At least 3 years work experience in a recognized micro finance institution or commercial bank at Managerial level.
• Basic knowledge of all operations of all department; in the company.
