HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGER
The Medical Research Council/ Uganda Virus Research Institute (MRC/UVRI) on AIDS based at the Uganda Virus Research Institute, Entebbe invites applications from suitably qualified Ugandans for the post of Human Resource Manager. The MRC/UVRI is a bilateral multi-disciplinary research organization funded by the Medical Research Council (UK), OFID (UK) and other international donor organisations. "
The post is based at the UVRI in Entebbe and the successful applicant will have responsibility for overseeing personnel and training issues with regards to both local and international contract staff working at this site and at the accompanying field stations in Kyamulibwa, Kampala and Masaka.
Duties and responsibilities: The HR Manager will be responsible for the day to day management of the Human Resource Department, including recruitment, performance appraisal, promotions, managing disciplinary cases and ' ensuring that staffing levels are in line with the current and future needs of the organization. Working closely with MRC UK the post holder will be responsible for updating and communicating changes in employment policies and procedures and ensuring that the staff manual is kept up to date and in line with Ugandan employment law. Ensuring that the staffing costs keep within budget and allocating staff correctly to core or externally funded projects will be a vital part of the role.
Reports:
• The Human Resource Manager will report directly to the Director of Operations
• Day to day contact with Heads of Programmes, Project Leaders, Section Heads and employees at the Unit.
• Regular interaction with the MRC Region Centre London and fellow HR Managers across the UK and The Gambia.

Job requirement
Qualifications and Experience: Applicants must possess a minimum of a Masters Degree in Human Resource Management. Membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) or equivalent is advantageous but not essential. Candidates are required to have a minimum of 5 years post degree experience working in HR with 2 at manager level. Previous experience of dealing with international staff an advantage. An excellent level of computer literacy, especially Microsoft office and experience of using computerised Human Resource Management Systems (ideally Navision), is an essential requirement for this position.
Terms and conditions: Terms and conditions for the post are within the MRC/UVRI on AIDS salary scales and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Duration: Appointment to this post will be initially for three years with a 6 month probation period, but will be renewable subject to written agreement of the two parties.
